  • Secure touring pitches in central Budapest with 24-hour access
  • A 10-minute walk to Gellert Thermal Baths; metro and trams nearby
  • Simple pitches and a pizzeria/pub on site
You might not have expected to find touring pitches in central Budapest – but here they are, at a secure site with 24-hour protection and access so that you can come and go as you please while also having peace of mind that you’ll be staying in a safe location. The place in question is Karinthy Caravan and Auto Park, where simple hardstanding pitches are provided at a parking facility a few minutes’ walk from the handy South Buda transport hub Móricz Zsigmond körtér. This is a splendidly convenient location for a Budapest break, with the Allee Shopping Centre pretty much next door and several restaurants, pubs and food shops within a few minutes' walk. But of course you're here to see the sights… and this is a handy location for those as well, whether you’re travelling on the city's excellent public transport (with a metro line and several tram lines close by) or exploring on foot. Major attractions like Buda Castle, St Stephen’s Basilica and Heroes Square are all within a half-hour walk, and the famed Gellert Thermal Baths are about 10 minutes away for a soothing soak. As they’re part of a parking complex rather than a fully fledged holiday park, pitches here are fairly simple in style and have access to a toilet block. There’s also a pizzeria/pub on site with a large terrace where you can grab easy meals and cool drinks.

Local attractions

Where to start with the stunning city that is Budapest? Well, down at the banks of the Danube river is a good place to start, for those famed views of the skyline taking in the Hungarian Parliament Building, Buda Castle, St Stephen’s Basilica and Széchenyi Bridge. A walk along the riverbank is a good way to take it all in, but there are also tour boats cruising up and down the river too if you’d rather see it from the water. For more great views, climb up Gellert Hill (20 minutes' walk from the site) to see across the whole city. Meanwhile, for a very different side of things, head underground at Palvolgyi Cave (45 minutes by public transport) to see what's under the city streets. There are museums galore too – some top picks include the House of Terror, the Pinball Museum and the Chocolate Museum as well as the Fine Arts Museum and Hungarian National Museum. For a relaxing evening after all that, you may like to visit the opera house or find a spot at one of the city's atmospheric ruin bars.
