It's free, quick and easy!
- Spacious family-friendly riverside site in Echternacherbrück
- A kilometre from Echternach and the 'Little Switzerland' trails
- Swimming pool, paddling pool, games room and bistro on site
It sure is a sweet setting for Campingpark Freibad Echternacherbrück, in a laidback park by the Sûre river, with no less than a generous kilometre of riverbank to accommodate folk who fancy a spot of fishing or waterside daydreaming.
It's Germany here, but only just – the site is in the little town of Echternacherbrück, but just across the river is Luxembourg and the similarly petite town of Echternach. Whichever direction you choose to head in, it’s not longer than 10 minutes or so to stroll to the towns’ shops, restaurants and other amenities.
This handy location also allows you to make the most of two countries’ worth of day trips, be they taking off to Trier on the German side, striding along the Mullerthal trails on the Luxembourgish side or moseying around the Moselle vineyards in either (or preferably both…).
If you can’t decide which to head to first, there’s plenty to keep all ages entertained on site while you come to a conclusion. A generous three playgrounds are to hand, and there’s also space for games of pétanque and table tennis, all followed by dips in the outdoor swimming pool and/or paddling pool. Miniature golf and tennis are a short walk away in the park, and the site has a well-equipped games room to retreat to should the weather be dubious.
Active types are particularly well served in summer, when all sorts of activities are laid on for all ages; if it all gets a bit much, the bistro and beer garden beckon for kicking back with drinks and dinner.

Local attractions
Jaunts on the German side of the river should really include a trip to Trier, half an hour’s drive away: it’s said to be one of the oldest cities in the country, and as such it’s crammed with Roman, Renaissance, medieval and modern things to see. The cathedral, market square and Roman Porta Nigra are among the must-sees while you’re here.
Take a few minutes to skip over the border to Luxembourg and Echternach, where it’s worth taking in the abbey and the Roman villa before heading out into the countryside. The Mullerthal surrounds are often referred to as Little Switzerland, and just like their namesake they offer many kilometres of walking and bike trails through mountains and meadows. Canoes can be hired in town if you’d like to see the scenery from the Sûre river.
Fancy a tipple? There’s a good scattering of wineries within a half-hour drive of the site. If you’ve got the small sorts on board, aim instead for the life-sized beasts of the Teufelsschlucht dinosaur park (10 minutes’ drive).
