  • Dog-friendly site in the Westerwald countryside
  • A 25-minute drive from Siebengebirge and 45 minutes from Bonn
  • Simple and spacious pitches with easy access from the B8
Countryside views and convenient access? That’s the enticing mix on offer at Camp-Rottura, surrounded by the gorgeous green landscapes of the Westerwald but with easy main road access from the B8 for stress-free journeys. Once you’re set up at this Rhineland-Palatinate site, you’ll be in a splendid spot for hikes, bike rides and other outdoorsy activities among the surrounding hills or a little further away among the volcanic peaks of the Siebengebirge area or along the banks of the Rhine. And there are city strolls close by too – in the lovely streets of Bonn (45 minutes’ drive away) or Cologne (50 minutes). The spacious pitches here are part of a relaxed site that welcomes kids and dogs and where you’re encouraged simply to unwind and soak up the views while you’re here. Simple facilities include toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point, and a bakery and restaurant are a couple of minutes’ walk away. A couple of supermarkets and a farm shop are within a few minutes’ drive for your self-catering supplies.

Local attractions

Hikers and cyclists can wander easily enough through the surrounding hills, or set off to the Siebengebirge area (25 minutes’ drive) to follow trails through a landscape of 40 peaks, peppered with orchards and vineyards and with some great views along the way (you may be able to spy the spires of Cologne Cathedral on a clear day…) There are more trails – this time of the waterside variety – at Staumauer Wahnbachtalsperre dam (half an hour), or you can get to the banks of the Rhine river with a similar length of drive. And how about a castle or two along the way? Within a drive of about half an hour you have a choice of the baroque Wolkenburg castle, 19th-century Schloss Drachenburg and the remains of the medieval castle on Drachenfels hill. Meanwhile, for a taste of very different history, you may like to stop in at the small Elvismuseum Germany (half an hour’s walk). Big days out nearby might take you to either Bonn (45 minutes) or Cologne (50 minutes) – both very walkable cities with attractions like the Beethoven-Haus and the Kunstmuseum Bonn Museumsmeile in the former and the cathedral and Lindt Chocolate Museum in the latter.
