- Glamping at Springfest 2020: 'Oktoberfest's little sister’
- A half-hour bus journey from Munich
- Pre-erected tents, hot showers, free hot drinks and glamping garden
Beery brilliance and brilliant beer… any traveller worth their hops should be sticking Springfest on their bucket list at least once.
And as for the reasons why? Well. As the owners of this fab glamping site point out, you'll be merrily singing atop tables, downing many a stein of beer and… befriending old German guys – such splendid fun. And then? The party continues at Stoke Travel at Camping München-Thalkirchen, the legendary setting of the biggest campsite parties outside the beer halls.
No need to beerily wrestle with your tent after staggering back from the party either: these friendly folk do the lot for you, sorting out comfy and cosy sleeping arrangements in waterproof glamping tents all ready for your weary beery self. You'll be toastily snug among the sheets and duvet with your hot water bottle; pillows and towels are provided, and there's a turndown service every day.
Hot showers, free wifi and unlimited coffee, tea, soup and hot chocolate (with marshmallows) are also included in the glamping package, as is a private glamping garden area to totter along to after the party.
As you may have heard that German beer festivals can get a tad busy, the team can help out with arranging a table for you so you can bang your stein and sing lustily like a local. They can also help with access to festival guides and their own nifty tips about Munich and Oktoberfest, so you can come back later in the year…
And the final, almost best (best = beer) part of this splendid beery site? Your glamping price includes a belly-busting brekkie every morning until noon: as any beer buff will know, this should blow away the previous night's cobwebs as well as set you up for another day.

Local attractions
Should you decide/manage to leave your stein behind for a day of sightseeing, Bavaria's capital Munich has enough to see to keep your hungover self busy for days.
Toppling the crown from Melbourne in 2018 as the world most liveable city, Munich is stuffed with sights from museums to theatres, exhibitions and architecture to and sports of all sorts. Top spots include Hellabrunn Zoo (25 minutes' drive from the site); Munich's biggest waterpark the Michaelibad (30 minutes); the Deutsches Museum, one of the biggest science museums in the world, and the spectacular Nymphenburg Palace, hailed as one of the most handsome royal residences on the planet.
Munich's famed too for its green and peaceful parks, including the Englischer Garten near the city centre (20 minutes), one of the biggest urban parks in the world. It's bigger than New York's Central Park – and there's a nudist section here too, possibly not something that would be popular with the NYPD… Another excellent option at Englischer is a spot of Munich surfing, on the Eisbach wave at the park's south.
And if you still seek the stein? There are beer halls aplenty if you're still partying after Springfest: the most famed, Hofbräuhaus am Platzl, has a restaurant, beer garden, ballroom and regular performances of traditional Bavarian music.
