  • Peaceful, family-focused site in rural Ardèche
  • In Darbres village centre, halfway between Privas and Aubenas
  • Outdoor pool, snack bar, playgrounds and seasonal entertainment
Many travellers are after a holiday spot in the Ardèche – with its terrific mix of towns, villages and smashing nature spots, there's no wonder so many people prize the opportunity to pootle around the place. That’s where Camping Les Lavandes comes in, being a particularly quiet site in a small village that's set well away from the crowds. Several features of Camping Les Lavandes are likely to catch your eye. For starters, there's that dreamy 200-square-metre pool – in summer when the weather is fine, you may find it hard to drag yourself away from those inviting waters, but if and when you do there's a snack bar on hand for post-swim eats (as well as sweeter treats like ice creams). In the low season, you'll probably have to grill your own grub on a barbecue or stove brought from home, but there are restaurants a few minutes' drive away if you're not in the mood to cook. Alongside the pool, this family site also has two playgrounds, a giant chess/draughts board and a trampoline to keep the kids busy, and there's entertainment in high season.

Local attractions

Get set to stretch your legs if you're Ardèche-bound: the region is rich in hiking spots, climbing areas and bike and motorbike tours. Many of these are close enough to base to be done and dusted in the morning, leaving your afternoon free for some well-deserved poolside lounging. If you prefer to cool off in the river, you can also soak your feet in the Auzon river, a 5-minute walk from the site. Fancy a break from your hiking boots? There are lots of other ways to explore the Ardèche: kids and adults alike may appreciate high-speed racetrack laps at go-karting course Karting Lavilledieu (20 minutes) while folk who prefer the gentle clip-clop of a country road can opt for horseback jaunts at several local riding stables. Once you've got to grips with the scenic landscape, make tracks for gorgeous villages like Vogüé (25 minutes) and start exploring the local culinary scene (particularly recommended on market days). Want to stick around? Vogüé also has relaxed riverside walks, an impressive castle and canoe rental to keep your travel tribe entertained.
