  • Among spectacular setting in the truffle country of Provence
  • Five minutes' drive from truffle capital Richerenches
  • Wellness centre, hot tub, outdoor pool and ensuite accommodation
Living in the lap of luxury among the truffle country of Provence – that sounds mightily like a sentence to make those back home green-faced with envy, non? Prepare your most modest (read: secretly smug) face to tell all about your stay at Lodges en Provence, near the Knights Templar town of Richerenches. Bragging fact the first: this is truffle country. Hailing itself as the truffle capital of Provence, local town Richerenches is famed for its winter truffle market (the biggest in France) and its January auction, where the treats found in the surrounding truffle forests are raffled off. Bragging fact the second, and third: Lodges en Provence's placement in the Vaucluse department is in a highly scenic setting both on site and off, and within easy driving distance of spectacular Drôme castles including Grignan and Suze-la-Rousse. The Lodges en Provence team can help with booking on top deals and trips around the region; just let them know where your truffly and other tastes lie. And bragging fact the fourth? Aside from its truffle-filled setting, this lush and peaceful site is a place of lush and peaceful times too, as there's a hot tub and big outdoor pool for guests' use, as well as massage and other treatments available to book. Another highlight of the site (well, along with its pool, wellness area, swish accommodation and fab locale) is the handsome big restaurant with terrace and loads of grassy seating space outside, dishing up regional recipes that change with the seasons.

Local attractions

Truffles first? What a sensible choice. Lodges en Provence is five minutes' drive from the Provence truffle town of Richerenches, which holds a truffle market every Saturday morning from November to March, and a famed truffle auction every year in January. If you're not in town then (boo), investigate the whole truffly tale at the town museum, where you can also find out about Richerenches's role in the history of the Knights Templar (hint: significant). Spectacular sites of southern France heritage are within easy driving distance, such as the Renaissance castle of Grignan, on a rocky promontory occupied since the Iron Age, and the Château of Suze-la-Rousse, a medieval fortress that was the country retreat for the princes of Orange from the 14th to 17th centuries. If you're more up for getting active, Lodges en Provence is partnered with several local businesses, which can take you on guided horse trekking, quad biking or cycling tours.
