- Friendly site in the Provence, just 600 metres from Avignon
- Bicycles for hire on site and museums within 15 minutes' walk
- Bar, restaurant and grocery shop with fresh bread on site
Just 600 metres from the ancient city centre of Avignon. You might care to hear that once more: Camping Bagatelle is only 600 metres from the ancient city centre of Avignon, an aged residence of popes, one of the few cities in all of France to have preserved its medieval ramparts, and with its centre named a dedicated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a family-friendly Provence site that suits all ages – if the kids don't love the old cathedral in Avignon, they surely will like the ramparts – and the site is also conveniently shaded by sycamore trees to make a scenic setting for all.
It has a bar and restaurant with eat-in or takeaway food and extensive views of the city, as well as a launderette and a grocery shop selling fresh bread and international newspapers. Reading the paper in the bar among the views of excellent Avignon? How splendid.
Cooking classes with traditional recipes from the Provence region are organised on site. Camping Bagatelle also has bikes for hire for guests who'd like to explore the Provence villages, the local lavender fields and the city of Avignon – once again, how utterly splendid…

Local attractions
Ancient Avignon is really rather excellent indeed… among its many sights are the UNESCO city centre, including its Papal Palace, the 12th-century cathedral Notre Dame des Doms, and the pope-built ramparts.
Also around the Camping Bagatelle part of Provence are the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône, horse riding and hiking in the Cévennes mountains, and many a village, town and festival to traipse around; ask the Bagatelle team for their recommendations. An Olympic-sized swimming pool and a bowling area are both near the site.
When you're ready to get out of the city, start by gawping at the stalactites and stalagmites at spectacular Grottes de Thouzon (20 minutes' drive), which were only discovered in 1902, or Alpilles Natural Regional Park (35 minutes) for a nice scenic bike ride or hike.
