- A 20-minute drive from Toulon and Hyères; 45 minutes from La Ciotat
- Outdoor pool, games room, play area, bar, restaurant and pétanque
While almost all of France is fertile ground for outdoor hols, it's hard not to have something of a soft spot for splendid Provence. These balmy climes are home to a dreamy landscape of lavender fields, mountains and the Med – an excellent backdrop for all manner of alfresco activities and family explores.
Camping L'Artaudois in Var is no exception: this hillside spot is filled with sweet-smelling lavender, pines and eucalyptus that create a perfume that's particularly pleasing when the weather is warm (as it is wont to be around these parts). Another perk of pitching up here? The deep-blue waters and beachside bars of Plage de la Garonne are but a 20-minute downhill stroll away.
Got energy to expend? Camping L'Artaudois has a well-equipped pétanque court and 1150-square-metre pool complex where you can swim yourself silly. There's also a tiddlers' splash zone and, in high season, a kids' club that's pretty sure to keep the small sorts occupied.
Rather get some relaxing done instead? Little compares to sitting at the poolside with a drink in hand, and at Camping L'Artaudois there's a chilled bar and terrace where you can indulge in just that. Pottering around the shops and cafés in Le Pradet (10 minutes' walk) is also easy to sort; those curious about pedalling to other seaside spots should pick up a long-distance, car-free bike route in the town centre.

Local attractions
In the mood for local jaunts? An excellent choice, particularly given how much is walkable in this neck of the woods. As well as open-air dips at Plage de la Garonne (20 minutes' walk), you can practise volleys at the local tennis club (20 minutes), show off your moves at the town's skate park (20 minutes) or head down to a nearby riding stables for sightseeing on four legs (15 minutes).
Further afield, the port city of Toulon makes for fab family-friendly days out with its cable car (20 minutes' drive), zoo (30 minutes) and naval museum (25 minutes). Those of a historical bent may well want to linger around town to check out the Provence Landing Memorial (20 minutes), an impressive exhibit about the Second World War opened by Charles de Gaulle in 1964.
In contrast, Hyères (20 minutes) is a classic Riviera resort town, with a gorgeous historic centre, pleasure port and hilltop castle where you sit back and take it all in. La Ciotat (45 minutes) is another must-see spot where there are crystalline calanques to swim in and some brilliant botanical gardens.
