- Basses Gorges du Verdon five minutes' drive; Valensole half an hour

An Alpes-de-Haute-Provence spot sandwiched between the Luberon Regional Natural Park and the Verdon Regional Natural Park is always going to be a great choice for those of you seeking peaceful stays and scenic outdoor activities… but it's even better if it’s at La Roulotte du Verdon, a smartly kitted out caravan five minutes' drive from the village of Quinson.
By day you'll easily be able to get out and about in the rural surroundings from here, hiking between lakes and mountains, cycling through scenic landscapes (mountain bikes are available free of charge) or trying out various watersports. There are also plenty of cultural and historic attractions around, and being so close to the village means you'll also easily be able to pop out for meals or supplies from the shops.
Come evening time, you'll be able to retreat to your comfortable caravan – a cosy and cleverly designed place that packs in a master bedroom, a bunk bed, a well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower and toilet. Coffee, tea and jam are provided, as are cleaning products and toilet paper – but please note you'll need to bring your own bed linen and towels.
Outside, your terrace has a grill and garden furniture to help you make the most of evenings looking out over the fabulous rural views. You can also play games on the pétanque court in the garden, or give yourself a pamper session with a massage and a soak in the hot tub (spa subject to an extra charge).

Local attractions
You won’t have to go far to find something to entertain yourselves with – in fact, Quinson (five minutes' drive) has its very own attraction in the form of the Norman Foster-designed Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon. The village is also the gateway to the Basses Gorges du Verdon, which you can explore on foot, by canoe or on an electric boat trip from the village.
Climbing and mountain bike trails are plentiful nearby, and there's horse riding at Les Chevaux du Verdon (10 minutes). Sainte-Croix Lake (20 minutes) and the Gorges du Verdon (an hour) are other popular places to explore, or you may like to stroll through the fragrant lavender fields at Valensole (half an hour).
Other days out nearby might include a trip to the pretty village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (half an hour), the chance to learn about bees at Musée vivant de l’abeille (35 minutes) or a soak in the thermal baths at Gréoux-les-Bains (half an hour). You can also get underground at the troglodyte caves of Villecroze (40 minutes).
