It's free, quick and easy!
- 1.5 hectares of olive and oak trees at the base of the Luberon massif
- A 10-minute drive to Oraison and 15 minutes from Mées
- Solar-heated pool, bar, play area and electric car charging station
Seizing the day comes naturally at Camping Little Carpe Diem - Les Olivettes, a place for either getting lost among the 1.5 hectares’ worth of oaks and olive trees on site, diving into the swimming pool or using as a base for ambling around the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department...
If it’s the latter you’ll mostly be making your mission while at this Provence park, buckle up as there’s a lot to get through. Travellers can start off with local hiking and biking on some of the 350 kilometres’ worth of marked Haute Provence Alps trails, including around the Luberon massif seen from the site. For more views, the Rochers des pénitents are in Mées (a 15-minute drive away) where guests can goggle at this series of narrow rocks from a popular lookout point.
Back on lower ground, ancient villages and meadows full of flowers are always worth lingering around while in this stunning area; you could swerve over to Sisteron for its citadel, Old Town and medieval ramparts 30 minutes’ drive away or Lurs (20 minutes) to putter across the Promenade des Eveques towards a small chapel with poppy and lavender fields in the surrounds.
With the site being in such naturally lush scenery, it may not come as a surprise that the owners are rather in tune with the environment, putting in solar heating for the swimming pool and showers as well as setting up a facility for recharging electric cars.

Local attractions
The Durance river runs through the region around this park, making it prime for rafting on the water as well as climbing and canyoning beside its banks. Like to get your kicks kayaking? Do it from Villeneuve, 20 minutes away, or swoop into the sky via hot air balloon on a trip organised from Forcualquier (a 25-minute drive).
Abbeys are abundant in this area of religious and historical significance, with the Benedictine structure at Ganagobie being 30 minutes from the park. Unshockingly for France, châteaux are everywhere too – try the 18th-century Castle Sauvan about a half an hour’s drive away with a garden the French Ministry of Culture has labelled one of the best in the nation.
Think you’ll be ready to return to nature after all the culture? Plan on travelling to the rusty red rocks of the Provençal Colorado region, an hour and five minutes by car to see desert-like scenery and the remains of former ochre-mining quarries. If blue’s more your colour, make tracks to Verdon gorge (an hour and 30 minutes away) to canoe through the turquoise water beside towering cliffs...
