Local attractions

Camping La Grangeonne is in the pretty Provençal village of Esparron de Verdon, minutes' walk away from the 328 or so hectares of Esparron lake just under the Verdon Gorge and the Lake of Sainte-Croix. Canoeing and motorboating are both available on the lake, as well as sailing and rowing courses and guided cruise trips from La Perle du Verdon. Swimming is allowed and is supervised in July and August. For a more subterranean – and highly recommended – watery time, the sailing club of Esparron organises canoe and motorboat tours of the old Verdon canal, caves and tunnels. On land, take to trail or cliff: nearly 300 kilometres of marked mountain bike trail are easily accessible from the campsite, and the area around it is top climbing land, with clambers of all levels to be had at the Verdon limestone cliffs. For hiking and a-wandering, find the Esparron botanical trail joining the entrance of the gorges, or potter among the Provençal landscapes and their lakes, hills, lavender, limestone and scents of rosemary and thyme.
