Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked Honestly, when we arrived we had no idea what this pitch was going to be like, we booked online due to location and didn’t look at any reviews so when we got there and found the facilities made out of pallets, rope, bungie chords and tie wraps we were a little shocked HOWEVER… This turned out to be the BEST CAMPSITE EVER!!!! The rustic primitive charm is infectious, the toilet is a wonderful idea, the shower was incredible! As horse lovers we got to shower while watching horses graze will absolutely be back!!

Disliked Not sure if this os the fault of this property or a neighbour, but a dog barked 24/7, which though out the night became especially grating. Even as animal lovers, listening to dogs bark so frequently and prolonged really did spoil slightly what would have been a perfect location.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked The kids loved the animals. Margaret the pig is always so happy to see you!

The camping was basic, but whilst we were there they were creating new facilities in a different field.

The owner is absolutely lovely. Our gas wasn’t working so he tried to see if his canister would work. He also gave us some tomatoes.

Cimes de Courcy is a short drive away and worth a visit. They have bouncy nets suspended in the trees, with a cafe on site.

Disliked The toilet and shower were in need of work when we were there, but they were building new ones, so I’m sure that they will be much better for others.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked Great stop off with a shady pitch under a walnut tree. We stayed one night as we travelled south and spent an afternoon relaxing after a long drive.
Very easy to find, the sat nav took us right there and David was there to meet us who was a wonderfully welcoming host.
The ablutions are very rudimentary - a composting toilet and an outside shower. I enjoyed my shower whilst being watched a horse but it may not be for everyone! Think of this as an off grid aire and you'll be just fine!

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked What a great place to stay. David’s farm was completely charming - our neighbours were goats, pony’s and a beautiful (and chatty) pig called Maggie.
This is a peaceful place surrounded by vineyards and run by David and his very friendly family.
We were made to feel very welcome and were introduced to the local vineyards and area. Highly recommended

Disliked Nothing at all

Local attractions

Saumur (20 minutes’ drive) simply has to be on the schedule when you’re staying here – this town on the banks of the Loire river is a lovely place to wander around, with a spectacular château and lots of medieval buildings to see. You may also like to take a wine-tasting tour of the town, see the tanks and armoured vehicles at Musée des Blindés and watch a show or take a tour at the Cadre Noir riding school. The Loire Valley is of course littered with lovely historic buildings, so you may also like to stop by at villages like Candes-Saint-Martin and Montsoreau (15 minutes), visit the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud (20 minutes) or explore the gorgeous Château d’Ussé (half an hour), whose classic turrets were said to be the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle. For family days out, clamber up into the trees at Saumur Forest Aventures (20 minutes), or set off to Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine (35 minutes) to see animals from around the world in natural-style habitats within an old quarry.
