The handsome Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park is a fabulous destination for a holiday, with heaps of excellent outdoor activities and historic sights to fill your days with. Making the most of these verdant and peaceful surroundings is Camping Le Plô, close to the village of Le Bez and with gorgeous views over the surrounding scenery. This family-friendly site is in a great spot for guests hoping to explore the Tarn and Occitanie regions – it’s got direct access to the hiking and mountain bike paths of the Sidobre plateau and it’s close to other natural features like lakes and waterfalls for days spend wild swimming, fishing and canoeing. Heritage-packed towns and cities including Albi, Castres and Carcassonne are within easy day-trip distance too. However you fill your days here, you’ll be coming back to a site that’s been designed with fuss-free family holidays in mind. You’ll be able to take a dip in the outdoor pool or relax on a sun lounger while the kids splash in the paddling pool; there’s also an extensive play area for the younger guests, with trampolines, table tennis and space to play football, volleyball or basketball. For the toddlers in your party, there’s a separate play area with a sandpit, swings and the like. All the everyday essentials are sorted too, of course – the site has a snack bar (open in the evenings), a high-season bread delivery service, a wifi service and a launderette as well as meticulously cleaned bathroom facilities.

Local attractions

This scenic area is packed with options for outdoor activities, particularly on two wheels – perhaps hire a bike on site to pedal along local lanes, take your mountain bike to the cross-country trails in Brassac (10 minutes’ drive) or follow in the tyre tracks of Laurent Jalabert on former Tour de France routes. Water babies are also well catered for, with canoeing on the Agout river from Burlats (20 minutes) or at Lac de La Riviège (25 minutes), which also has beach areas. There’s also horse riding 10 minutes’ away and a treetop trail at Aventure Parc (35 minutes) as well as plenty of options for hiking, climbing and other adventures (ask on site for recommendations). To soak up some of the area’s heritage, visit medieval villages like Castres (25 minutes) and Lautrec (35 minutes) or plan a day trip to Albi (an hour), home to the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum and the world’s largest brick cathedral. Carcassonne (an hour and 20 minutes) is another top choice for its UNESCO-listed fortified city.
