  • Peaceful 27-hectare landscaped site in the Causses de Quercy
  • Rocamadour half an hour's drive; Cahors 35 minutes
  • Pool and restaurant with lovely views; kids' activities on site
Caving, canoeing and climbing part of your holiday plans? Or maybe it's all about chilling out in a peaceful rural location, with laidback meals and relaxed days of swims and sunbathing? Either way – or for a mix of both – you’ll likely be rather pleased if you pick a pitch at Domaine de la Faurie. This Lot site five minutes' drive from Séniergues is within the Causses de Quercy Regional Natural Park, so it's a scenic place. And it's a characterful one, too, centred around a cluster of traditional dry-stone buildings including an old dovecote. Pitches are scattered among the trees around the 27-hectare landscaped park, giving a mix of sunny and shaded spots for guests to set up in. One of the best places to take in the scenery is the terrace of the site's restaurant, which has fabulous views over the surrounding landscapes and serves a varied menu of homemade dishes including burgers, pizzas and desserts. You're welcome to come along just for drinks here too – there's a fully stocked bar that serves snacks and is the social hub of the site, with entertainment including karaoke and dancing. The outdoor pool area is another spot that’s blessed with fabulous views. The heated main pool, paddling pool and sun loungers all look out over the gorgeous green hills, making this a particularly fine place to while away a few chilled-out hours. If the kids aren’t quite as taken with the idea of hours of doing very little, that's fine – they can spend time at the play area, play games of pétanque, badminton or table tennis, or join in with organised activities like pony rides, cave art sessions and woodworking.

Local attractions

As well as the various activities organised on site, there are lots of active pursuits available nearby. Canyoning, caving and hikes are among the ways to get and about – and both the Lot and Dordogne rivers are within a half-hour drive for canoeing. You can also get up into the trees for a bird’s-eye view of the landscape from the high ropes courses at Le bois des Elfes (20 minutes' drive). There are, of course, lots of scenic spots to explore around the Causses de Quercy Regional Natural Park, with a couple of highlights being the clifftop village of Rocamadour (half hour) and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (45 minutes), one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Rocher des Aigles and Monkey Forest (both 35 minutes) are popular family-friendly visits near Rocamadour. For some town time, take yourselves off to Cahors (35 minutes), to see the fortified Pont Valentré and sample some local wine, or Sarlat-la-Canéda (50 minutes), to stroll through the historic Old Town.
