- Well-equipped static caravans in the foothills of the French Pyrenees
- Salies-du-Salat five minutes’ drive; Toulouse one hour and 10 minutes
- Pool and pool house with board games; pétanque court
At the foot of the Pyrenees, in south-western France (and just over an hour’s drive from the border with Spain), Les Chalets Salinéens is well placed for active types (plenty of hill walking to be had round these parts), foodies (who can sample dishes that draw from both French and Spanish gastronomic traditions) and those who just want a little ‘dolce far niente’ – sweet idling.
Static two-bedroom caravans in a tree-dotted, well-tended garden come with a kitchen (featuring gas hob and oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and other appliances), a living/dining space with a TV, and a bathroom. And you needn’t worry about cool nights or scorching summer days, for the caravans are equipped for all seasons, with both heating and air conditioning.
Bed linen and towels are provided, though you’ll have to bring your own pool towel – oh yes, there is a pool fringed by sun loungers and umbrellas (for those sweet idling moments…). The pool house has a kitchen area and a communal fridge freezer where you can store your ice lollies (and your beer), plus entertainment in the shape of a TV and a range of board games. There’s also a pétanque court for friendly family games – or competitive tournaments with your fellow guests.
If you stay for at least a week, the owners (who live next door) will be happy to arrange daily deliveries of bread and pastries or paella evenings. For other dining options, head to Salies-du-Salat (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk), across the Salat river from the site.
