  • Glamping lodges on a wooded park five minutes' drive from Vittel
  • Two thermal spa centres within a five-minute drive
  • Breakfast included; picnic baskets and local drinks available on site
Space to laze about, plentiful hiking trails, massages, yoga classes (and, just perhaps, a drink or two…) – are such things vital to your vacation? Venture forth then to the Vosges area and the very laidback glamping site Vit Tel Ta Nature, in a woodland spot on the outskirts of Vittel. This lush place is completely geared towards getting guests to unwind: those yoga classes and massages are right on site, as are nature walks and a mini farm with pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs and donkeys. If you fancy stretching your legs in the scenic surrounds, the friendly folk on site will happily hire you a bike (or an electric bike for extra easiness points) and point you towards top picks among the area’s 160 kilometres of trail for a ride or a ramble. Throw in a swimming pool and golf course 10 minutes' walk away and two thermal spas within a five-minute drive and your recipe for relaxation is almost complete. The icing on the cake? The owners will bring a tasty breakfast to your comfy unit every morning, and can sort you with picnic lunches or dinners to save you the stress of cooking. Local beers and wines (don’t rub your eyes too much – it is indeed blue wine…) can be picked up in the site shop to sip alongside your meals.

Local attractions

Vittel found fame in the 19th century as a thermal spa town, following in the successful footsteps of its neighbour Contrexéville. Both towns are still fine places to soak in the mineral-filled waters and treat yourself to treatments, and both are easily reached with a five-minute drive. Having cleansed your body, perhaps it’s time to give your mind some food for thought with a trip to Épinal (45 minutes' drive) to muse on 30,000 pieces of art at Musée Départemental d’Art Ancien et Contemporain and the printworks at Musée de l’Image. There’s also a splendid château here (with animal park, vineyard and medieval gardens), and a pretty collection of colourful houses in the old town. If les enfants aren’t into all this, perhaps take them to the bowling alley in Contrexéville or watch their eyes grow wide at the sights of the sweet factory in Darney (25 minutes). Proper adrenaline rushes can be had on the rides at Fraispertuis City theme park (an hour’s drive) – the park’s Timber Drop ride was once the steepest rollercoaster on the planet.
