Pitch by the lake

  • Friendly lakeside site with spectacular views over the Arédien hills
  • A 10-minute walk from Saint-Germain-les-Belles
  • Fish (March to September) for carp, trout, pike and roach; swimming
Let your hair down lakeside at Camping de Montréal, where your time can be spent swimming and admiring the views over the Arédien hills. It's just 10 minutes' walk away from Saint-Germain-les-Belles, where there are restaurants for a long-drawn-out dinner or a takeaway before trotting back to your pitch. Choose a suitable spot to stretch out and unwind – there are plenty of such spots, with the added bonus of some rather fab views over the Lac de Montréal and to the hills behind. Fishing is available between March and September, so perhaps you could muster up enough energy to cast a rod into the lake and attempt to entice some trout, roach, pike or carp to take a bite (fishing licences are needed but they can be bought on site). If you’re feeling rather more active, you could slip into the lake’s waters for a swim or seek out more swimming at the open-air pool. Out of the water, tennis, basketball, volleyball and a playground are all on site too.

Power optional grass campsite (lake view)

Liked: Stunning setting with lake view. Staff so friendly and helpful. Liked the hedges between pitches. Adds privacy and help shield wind. Ate in the Restaurant in the evening. Fabulous freshly cooked food. Decent wine and reasonably priced. Would definitely return. Had seen some previous reviews suggesting sanitary facilities need an update. Perhaps, but they’re perfectly adequate and clean too.

Disliked: Nothing

Power optional grass campsite (lake view)

Liked: This was an absolutely lovely site, set on a lake with the beautiful French countryside surrounding it. The facilities were plentiful and spotlessly clean. Lovely little swimming pool and a great restaurant overlooking the lake which served up a simple but very good menu for lunchtime and evening. Also loved swimming in the lake with a very nice 'beach' area. The owners could not have been more accommodating or helpful. We had a really relaxing and enjoyable stay and will definitely be going back.Highly reccomend this site.

Power optional grass campsite (lake view)

Liked: Next to a lake with lovely views Friendly helpful owners . Clean toilets with loo roll & seats. Decent sized level pitches

Disliked: Tired in need of updating. Allowed inflatables in the very small pool which made it impossible to swim.

Power optional grass campsite

Disliked: De receptie is beperkt open. Loop naar het restaurant als je hulp nodig hebt bij aankomst.

Local attractions

The Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park is the place for rural ramblings, half an hour's drive away. Walk to a waterfall, take one of the themed discovery walks, rent mountain bikes or head to Eymoutiers to hire canoes or kayaks for trips on the Vienne river. Around half an hour away is Reynou zoo park, where five kilometres of paths run through a 100-hectare site, giving you the chance to see animals such as giraffes and lions up close, all in the grounds of a 19th-century château. For a château of a different variety, take the half-hour drive to Château de Châlucet, a medieval pile at the top of a hill (take decent shoes for the hike up). Also around half an hour’s drive from the site is the town of Limoges, famed for its porcelain production – you can still visit porcelain shops here as well as seeing an ancient kiln next to the riverside path.
