Powered earth campsite

Liked: Level site in a forest setting.

Disliked: The facilities were basic though clean. Very peaceful on first night but on the second evening a bus load of 17 year olds turned up who were noisy. That’s what teenagers do but it was unexpected and we would never have booked if we had known this site was open to a school (60 plus teens) where noise carried on until 23.30.

Primitive earth tent campsite

Powered earth campsite

Liked: Fabulous location in rural setting but easy walking/cycling distance to the village of Tuchan for shops etc. The local cousin stunning and unspoilt - this is a long way from the usual tourist spots. The campsite has very good facilities- large electric pitches, new toilet/shower block and a great pool with bar / restaurant. Not too big, just perfect size site if you want a reasonably quiet getaway.

Disliked: Some disturbance on one night with music and partying going on till 3am as they had a private wedding function - but it was one night only. The location can suffer with high winds too, which means awnings can be a challenge!

Local attractions

When in a wine region it’d be foolish not to make the most of the vineyards in the vicinity, so start off with tours and tastings at Les Vignerons du Mont Tauch, 15 minutes’ walk away. Other vinicultural venues to voyage towards include Les Vignerons de Maury (30 minutes’ drive). Pick up a bottle to pair with the fresh seafood at Leucate (50 minutes), famed for its oysters, or tote your tipple and a picnic to the scenic Corbières mountains around the pretty village of Cucugnan (35 minutes). For days sans booze, head to the royal fortress of Château d'Aguilar (10 minutes) and the ruined Cathar castles of Château de Quéribus and Château de Peyrepertuse (both 35 minutes). The views from the latter are mighty impressive, as are those from the Gorges Du Verdouble (30 minutes) with its clearwater streams.
