Peaceful and green site

  • Leafy family site on the banks of the Marne river in Neuilly-sur-Marne
  • Disneyland Paris half an hour’s drive; Paris 45 minutes
  • Fitness course and pétanque courts; playground; bike hire
The kids have been clamouring to go to Disneyland, but you’ve been dreaming all year about sipping a glass of ‘vin rouge’ at a sidewalk café in Paris. Staying at Camping Les Rives de Paris, in Neuilly-sur-Marne, might just be the way to make everybody happy. This peaceful site on the fringes of the Parc départemental de la Haute-Île, a wooded area enclosed by the Marne river to the south and the Canal de Chelles to the north, sits almost halfway between Disneyland Paris (half an hour’s drive) and the French capital (45 minutes). When you’re not visiting Mickey Mouse and friends, or people-watching on the Left Bank, there’s plenty to do on site. A playground with a tree-shaded sandpit keeps the kids busy (another play area, with a large adventure course, is a five-minute drive away), while the grown-ups have a game of pétanque or make the most of the equipment on the open-air fitness course, which includes an elliptical bike and a rowing machine. For a family outing, hire a set of wheels to explore the island or to cycle to Bois de Vincennes (35 minutes by bike). There is no shortage of dining places in Neuilly-sur-Marne, just across the canal (five minutes, or a 20-minute walk); if you fancy making your own meals, there’s a food shop and a vegetable garden on site, as well as happy chickens supplying eggs for your full English. The toilet block includes facilities for disabled guests, and there’s also a launderette and a drying room.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked: There is a lot of room in the showers, spacious, hot water even at night, the place itself is beautiful, close to Paris, we took an Uber for 30 euros to the Louvre museum, also in Hamar - so it is convenient not to bring the car into the city. The bathrooms are overall clean, the place itself is very beautiful even just to stay there and walk around. It is important to note that we only stayed 2 nights and arrived in the evening and left the next night, so we don't know too much. All in all a good experience - if we return to the area we will close Shep Sha'ev.

Disliked: There was a certain lack of communication - we didn't get the place where we needed to park, but - yes the gate opened for us by itself and there were free parking spaces - so there was no problem with that.

Microlodge (double, four person)

Liked: The original opinion was great location lovely position

Disliked: The accommodation we paid for was tiny house as a treat after 3 weeks on the road was over priced,The staff were rude and the place wasn’t clean, and very basic inside yet we couldn’t cook as cooker wasn’t working there was no one to report to so had to spend more money eating out when all we wanted to do was use the facilities we paid for and chill out. The gate code also didn’t work and had locked us and others out the site again no one around to get help. The next day we went to reception to complain as we had not got what we required from our 1 night very overpriced stay. Told oh well nothing we will do for you they couldn’t care they had already had there money. We were treated very badly and their customer service was atrocious. Don’t waste your money on this site. Wi fi also did not work even though we were told it’s included in price nothing worked here.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked: Really great location. Beautiful quiet site. Felt like a little oasis in the city, green and full of wildlife. Really close for visiting both Paris and Disney and there was a bar/restaurant directly outside the site which was really convenient when we were too tired from sightseeing to travel. Toilet block clean and the large shower cubicles being so spacious with the dressing area made it easy for getting showered with our young kids. We were late arriving and concerned reception would be closed, but staff were really hwlpful and reassured us that the security guard would be able to assist us in getting our pitch. After arriving late (and with setting up we couldn't face cooking) it was really simple to order Deliveroo to site. Would definitely recommend.

Liked: Size of pitch and facilities. Good security

Disliked: Pitch surface a bit rough and ready. Could have done with a quick mow/strim. Tree in the middle of the pitch made us glad for motor mover as would have been tricky to site larger van and move off the pitch when the site was busy.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked: Really close to centre of Paris. Facilities were cleaned regularly and the wash up facilities were good. When it rained the toilet block floor was a bit muddy. 2 washing machines and 2 tumbler dryers.

Disliked: As it was busy through August our pitch had a lot of bare earth which wasn't great Busy site and people stay up late, which is fine for us but wouldn't be great if you are a morning person. There was loud music from the boats moored on the river. This may have been something we were unlucky with but it is outside the camp's control and it is not a rural site.

Local attractions

Built in the late 1300s, the Château de Vincennes (half an hour’s drive) features Europe’s tallest keep, a stone structure that once housed the royal apartments as well as a fearsome dungeon (among its notorious inmates was the Marquis de Sade). The Sainte-Chapelle de Vincennes, with its elegant Gothic spires, is also part of the complex. Visiting Paris? You’ll arrive from the east, so start your exploration at historic Place de la Bastille, then continue on to Place des Vosges, an elegant square fringed by arcades sheltering art galleries and restaurants. From there, cross the Marais (stopping at independent shops for one-off souvenirs) and reach the Centre Pompidou for contemporary art. The Museum of the Great War in Meaux (45 minutes), in a contemporary building on the site of the First Battle of the Marne, displays uniforms, weapons and documents related to World War I. And to reward the children for paying attention here, you can take them to Gulli Parc Meaux, an indoor amusement centre.
