It's free, quick and easy!
- Clifftop site with sea views on Normandy's Alabaster coast
- Within 15 minutes' walk of the shops and beach of Saint-Pierre-en-Port
- A 20-minute drive from Fécamp, treetop adventuring and paintball
Feeling arty? Pack your easel and perch yourself on this clifftop spot.
There are sea views and there are sea views. The sea views at Camping Les Falaises are in another league: sea views that make you see why painters like Monet and Dufy flocked from all over France to Upper Normandy's Alabaster coast.
As you’d expect from a site on cliffs over the sea, there’s a light and airy feel to Camping Les Falaises. They have big skies and plenty of space, but they still pack a lot in, with a games room and table tennis table, pétanque court and organised activities taking care of your sporting side. Of course, a decent breakfast is essential whatever you get up to and those decent folks at Les Falaises will supply fresh bread and croissants every morning. Not even Monet got that treatment...
A 15-minute walk away, the beach at Saint-Pierre-en-Port is every bit as fine as it looks from the cliffs, and is popular with swimmers and fishing enthusiasts. The latter might be a slow way to catch your lunch but happily the shops are 10 minutes’ walk from the site. Assemble a picnic of cracking local produce then descend to the sands for bites with a brilliant backdrop.

Local attractions
For even more dramatic dips in the briny, hotfoot it to Fécamp (20 minutes’ drive), whose beaches are overlooked by towering white cliffs. Walks up top take you round the wartime bunkers, while down by the water there’s ample stuff for aquatic adventure seekers from sea kayaking to paddleboarding and windsurfing. For pleasure seekers in town there’s a museum devoted to chocolate... and a Benedictine distillery. Dangerous combo, that.
Half an hour’s drive away, Étretat’s weathered cliff formations of arches and a pinnacle grace many a postcard, but people were entranced by those views long before cameras. Drawn by the changing light on the water, the contrast of blue-green seas and alabaster cliffs, a generation of 19th-century French painters put this coast on the map. At Honfleur (an hour) they pay tribute to them in the fine collection of the Eugène Boudin Museum while up at the 13th-century Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel on the hilltop generations of pilgrims have paid thanks for a safe return from the sea.
Those less swayed by history and views can have a whale of a time at Woody Park just outside Fécamp; treetop antics at up to 20 metres in the sky topped off with paintball and laser tag down on the ground. For quieter times in the midst of nature; visit the butterflies in Honfleur’s Naturospace tropical park or head to Caudebec-en-Caux (50 minutes) for a Seine boat ride past the regional park wetlands.
