  • Green and peaceful riverside setting with views of the Seine
  • A five-minute drive from Jumièges
  • Fishing, zipwire, climbing, archery and golf within three kilometres
Now this is something a bit special… As you may just possibly have suspected from the name, Upper Normandy's Camping de la Seine is on the Seine river, the 777-kilometre waterway that's probably the most famed in all of France: if you're going to vacance anywhere in la France, at some point you should have a holiday here. Views of France's most famous river and of the Seine valley can be had from all accommodation areas at Camping de la Seine, a green and spacious park set up for comfortable stays in a peaceful setting. The staff here are keen to ensure warm welcomes and a full intro into local life, from arranging trips to local attractions and activity destinations to inviting local farmers to bring the freshest of their seasonal fruit and veg to the site. Camping de la Seine has showers, toilets, a launderette and wifi. It's five minutes from these green riverside grounds to the old town of Jumièges, for shops and restaurants, barbecue supplies and – such a must – a ride across the Seine on the small ferry linking the town to the ruins of Jumièges Abbey.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Easy going atmosphere , facilities good, good dog walking

Disliked: Recycling of garbage not clear, glass only visible. We had made a reservation, arriving later than planned, but no notice for latecomers. Perhaps a simple sign saying “ take a pitch, we will see you in morning “ would surfice .

Primitive grass campsite

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The location was pretty, we had a pitch next to the river bank. There was a play area for the kids and table tennis to keep them entertained. Free high speed WiFi outside the reception. A little truck come selling lots of little bits on the Sunday afternoon which was lovely. There was use of a spa facility (we didn't use it). There was a small village near by, and supermarkets within a 10 minutes drive.

Disliked: There are lots of facilities, however they are poorly maintained. One morning every toilet was blocked and the water had risen to the seat on them, the toilets are more of a outdoor shed style and the doors are hard to close/gaps around them. The showers looked nice, but flooded the whole floor meaning your shoes and bag etc got soaked, when lifting the trap on the drain it was full of hair and hadn't been cleaned in a long time (this wasn't limited to one shower they all flooded and floor cleaning equipment was left there for you to clear the flooding when you was done). The site was a bit chaotic, when we arrived we were walked to 2 pitches (we camped with family) and told those two where ours, and another couple had the end one and were setting up their campervan. I asked again to clarify and the guy said yes 3 pitches those 2 are yours. We all set up and that evening around 8pm after the reception was closed, another motorhome turned up and said they had been given one of the pitches also and had just been out for the day so we had to squeeze a 4th motorhome in meaning everyone was on top of each other. We used the washing machine on the first day, and I kept thinking the washing smelt a little funny. My mum washed out a couple of tops (unworn since washing)on day 4 in her sink in the motorhome as the said they also smelt funny and she said the water was brown when they had been washed, so I'm not sure the washing machine has been cleaned or the water source or it isnt good.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The showers were very nice. The ground was good for a tent, with a decent covering of thick grass. Right next to the river, which was beautiful. Although we arrived after reception closed, they accommodated this as we phoned ahead.

Disliked: Toilets less appealing than the shows. The nearby river was noisy overnight, with a few very loud cargo boats.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The campsite was very calm and serene. The facilities were very clean and the staff were on the grounds almost always so very easy to get in touch with. The views along the Seine are lovely and the town of Jumièges is very pretty with lots of hikes and bike routes. It is a little hilly but we were able to watch a beautiful sunset from the town. We had a non electric grass pitch which was a great size and very level. We ended up staying an extra night here which was no hassle to book and so worth it
