  • Quiet dog-friendly Loiret site in a 10-hectare wooded park
  • A 25-minute drive to Château de Sully-sur-Loire; 40 minutes to Orléans
  • Tennis courts, pétanque, play area, snack bar and drinks bar on site
Quiet time in Loiret with ample visits to castles and perhaps some horse riding, go karting or treetop climbing… that’s the sort of break that awaits at Parc de Nibelle, a dog-friendly site set across a large wooded park that spans 10 hectares. With ample activities on hand for kids to let off steam and a generally quiet setting, this is a particularly fitting place for peaceful family holidays… What’s on the menu here? Well, the site has tennis courts and pétanque for times when you feel like a sporty activity. There’s a play area and a trampoline for kids to find further action – and when you’re ready to retire with something to nibble or sip on, the site also has a snack bar and drinks bar. Between May and September, the indoor swimming pool opens up too – you’ll be pleased to find it’s heated, making dips all the more pleasurable. Nibelle, the closest town, is a 35-minute walk away and has a couple of restaurants and shops if you want to source barbecue ingredients or have traditional French cuisine served to you. As for exploring, which is sure to be on your mind, a couple of medieval fortresses can be tracked down with a drive of under 25 minutes. Further out, Orléans is 40 minutes’ drive away and a prime spot for museums and sipping on Loire wine on a restaurant terrace or at an open-air show in the summer.

Local attractions

To medieval castles you go… Castle Chamerolles (20 minutes’ drive) is a medieval fortress that now houses a perfume museum and pretty gardens for peaceful strolls. Even more impressive is Château de Sully-sur-Loire (25 minutes), another medieval castle with huge towers and a list of historical figures who hid out there, such as Joan of Arc and Voltaire. Of course, Orléans (40 minutes) is a historic location too, and it’s well-known for its connection to Joan of Arc – her statue is a short walk from Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans, which is a particularly grand sight when lit up at night. There are a handful of museums in the city for any history fans, including a fine arts museum and a collection of Gallo-Roman statues. When you feel like occupying your afternoon with something quite active, you’ll be happy to find out that there’s a horse riding centre (five minutes) nearby, plus go-karting at Karting 45 (20 minutes) or treetop climbing at the Léo Adventure Park (50 minutes) in Orléans.
