- Family-friendly site five minutes' walk from Lodonnec beach
- 10 minutes' drive from Loctudy for boat trips to the Glénan Islands
- Heated, covered pool area with paddling pool and Jacuzzi
Ah, fab southern Finistère – a super spot for those who like to be by the seaside, with over 300 kilometres of gorgeous coastline to explore. Settle in for a stay at Camping Les Hortensias in Lodonnec and you’ll be a five-minute trot from the beach, a lengthy sandy stretch with sheltered waters for safe swimming.
If you’re more of a doer than a lounger, there’s plenty on offer around here, including hikes and bike rides on the GR 34 coastal path, sailing lessons, kayaking and scuba diving. It’s an easy journey to the towns of Quimper and Concarneau or to the port of Loctudy for boat trips to the gorgeous Glénan Islands (aka the Breton Tahiti). And it’ll no doubt not surprise you at all to find that there are beaches galore in just about every direction.
The site itself has been set up with easy family stays in mind, with plenty of facilities to keep les enfants suitably amused for many hours – a playground, trampoline and bouncy castle as well as an indoor playroom set up with TV and games for quieter times or rainy days. There’s also a smashing pool area (heated and covered to ward off passing clouds), with paddling pool, water games and Jacuzzi, and a programme of kids’ activities on summer-holiday mornings.
It’s a gentle five-minute stroll from here to the nearest restaurant and crêperie but if you’d rather lurk about on site, there’s a bar serving up drinks and snacks (pizza, fries and the like) on an open terrace, and a shop selling a range of groceries including fresh bread and those all-important ice creams.

Local attractions
If you fancy trying your hand at a range of watersports, it’s a 10-minute drive to the local sailing centre for sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and windsurfing – both kit rental and lessons for those who are baffled by technique. Head west for half an hour to hit Pointe de la Torche, a somewhat wilder stretch of coast that’s got great surfing and scuba diving.
Staying on top of the water, a boat trip to the Glénan Islands is a highly recommended day out. Sail over from the port at Loctudy, 10 minutes’ drive away, to see the white sandy beaches and bright blue seas that give the archipelago its nickname of the Breton Tahiti.
A little further afield, it’s also worth making the trip to Quimper, half an hour away, to see the Gothic cathedral and visit the museums, and walking around the walled town of Concarneau, 50 minutes away.
