All geared up for families with young children, Campotel at Escale Saint-Gilles is in a fantastic location on a bay near Bénodet on the Brittany coast. Hours of fun splashing in the sea or time spent lazing around the resort’s swimming and paddling pools? That difficult choice is yours. Let children go wild at Club Buzzy Bee under the watchful eye of Campotel Couriers as you take time out on the lazy river or sneak in a pamper treatment at the spa. There’s plenty to keep older kids off your hands too, from waterslides at the pool complex to kicking a football around or playing volleyball down on the beach with new-found chums. For a change of scenery, it’s a 25-minute walk into Bénodet, or you can jump on the mini train, which stops by three times daily in high season. If you need anything at all, reception staff are always around to help or advise on stuff like days out and bike hire. Everything is ready for you on arrival, so you can slip into holiday mode straight away. Static caravans offer bags of space for all, plus well-equipped kitchens and comfy living areas. Thoughtful extras like hairdryers and microwaves are part of the deal too. Whether you decide to cook (grab goodies for family meals at the mini-market) or go on strike for a few days (holiday mode, remember?) no-one is in danger of starving. Carve up your time between the poolside bar and restaurant, or order in a takeaway and serve it up on your private decking.

Local attractions

Stroll to the cove in less than five minutes for lazy days sunbathing and paddling in shallow waters. A 20-minute walk takes you to Bénodet beach, with its promenade cafés and sailing school – it’s also departure point for sea-fishing cruises or family kayaking trips along the Odet River. There’s a surfing school at Le Letty (10 minutes’ drive), and golfers can be playing a round at Golf de Cornouaille in 25 minutes. Brittany is steeped in history, and the kids might (just) be fascinated with the prehistoric standing stones at Plouhinec (45 minutes), or walking around the medieval walls at Concarneau (35 minutes). Another good ruse to lure them away from the pool is the thought of waterslides and play parks at Parc Odet Loisirs (25 minutes), while a seafront ride on the mini Celtic Train and the promise of stopping off for a chocolate crêpe should keep them smiling too.
