Powered gravel and earth campsite

Liked: We were here the end of season so it was very quiet, lovely friendly campsite staff and a small lake adjacent with paths, lots of walks around matour and a lovely market.

Disliked: Nothing!

Powered gravel and earth campsite

Liked: Lovely site, great snack bar, decent if busy municipul pool right next door. Nice friendly staff. Clean toilets (with seats and loo roll) and clean spacious showers. Had a lovely 3 night stay and didn't want to leave. Little town in easy reach (5min walk) and enjoyed having a look around the area.

Disliked: Uneaven pitch, but we made it work :)

Powered gravel and earth campsite

Liked: Shady plots, nicely laid out so it never felt full or busy (even though it was full!) Well kept site with clean showers/ toilets etc. Great local facilities for all the family - small selection of village shops 500m away, great play park and recreational walks. Local market on Mon.

Powered gravel and earth campsite

Liked: The campsite was perfect for the family with a range of activities for us all to enjoy including the Municipal heated pool, which is next door and for which you get passes to use (make sure you take Speedo swimmers though!). The town, with a grocery store offering everything you might need, is a short walk from the campsite. There is a small football pitch, tennis courts, table tennis & boules. The toilet, shower and washing up block is very well maintained so that you can enjoy hot showers. We only booked here last minute in order to avoid rain further north and it ended up being the best campsite so we were sad to only get 2 nights here. Could easily stay for a week or more.

Disliked: Nothing of note.

Powered gravel and earth campsite

Liked: The campsite is lovely and clean, spacious and the owners are very helpful. There is a nice bar/snack bar if you like to go out for a drink, or there are a few places to drink in town. There are lovely facilities for children to play with and safe places for them to ride their bikes on an amazing bike track and park only 2 mins from the site, also a lovely lake to walk round and the town is a 5 min easy walk, where there are all the shops you need and a lovely patisserie, butchers and x2 restaurants and a pizza takeaway which is nice. The pool is also lovely and clean but remember your right swim wear or you won’t get though the door even as a spectator.

Disliked: No shop on site which would have been fantastic for those essential items you run out of like milk/wine etc

Liked: Pitches are private and plenty of space. Fishing lake big and free to fish. Tennis courts. Bike track Close walk to village Swimming Pool (apart from having to wear speedo’s) Clean facilities

Disliked: A lot of bugs that bite (take spray and big candles). Power (electric hook up) far away from Pitch.

Powered gravel and earth campsite

Local attractions

Starting locally, stick around Matour for pony and horseback riding or for adventure walks for kids and geocaching (all within a kilometre of base). You could also head to Les ânes de Francis (10 minutes' drive) for donkey trekking through the countryside with an expert local guide, or to the calm surrounds of the Pézanin arboretum (10 minutes) to see top trees from near and far. To taste the local terroir, try the regular markets at Matour or La Clayette (20 minutes), where there's also a gorgeous lakeside château (not open to the public, but still great to admire on walks and picnics). For a stately home you can visit, book a guided tour at the ornate Château de Drée (25 minutes). You could also head to the nearby Mâconnais wine area (around 20 minutes' drive away on the western bank of the Saône river) to sample local wines, or head into Mâcon itself (35 minutes) to inspect the Saint-Pierre church and Saint Laurent bridge. The big city of Lyon (an hour and 15 minutes) is within easy reach too if you fancy a trip to France's foodie capital.
