  • Quiet and peaceful family camping
  • Seasonal swimming pool and modern leisure facilities
  • Activities organised during summer
The team at friendly Camping de Saulieu in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté's Côte-d'Or reckon this is a land of leisure and flavours: settle down here for a spell and see if you reckon they're right (spoiler: oui). The foodie part comes from the site's locale between French capital Paris and French cuisine capital Lyon – no argument there – and the leisure side from the array of activities to take on in the surrounding countryside, from hiking to biking, rock climbing to rafting, among its woodland and lakes. Horse riding is available within a kilometre – French countryside cantering…? Oui. Leisure on site includes a seasonal pool open from May to September, a sports area, pétanque court, ping pong and a playground. The team also sorts out entertainment for all in the summer season, ranging from weekly sports tournaments and theme nights to a kids' club which takes place twice per week.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The pools and deck chairs The choice and variety of pitches (we were given the option) Washing up facilities The fiddle and guitar performance

Disliked: Main bins were overflowing on last day No hooks on toilet doors - would be good when you’re on your way to brush your teeth to put toiletry bag and towel Ideally a way of the shower door self closing - annoying when left open and cold came in when showering Ideally a lower sink for kids to reach
