The site

  • Quiet green setting within the traditional village of Céaux
  • A 20-minute drive to Bec d’Andaine beach; 15 mins to Mont Saint-Michel
  • Playground, organic grocery shop, ping pong, volleyball and pétanque
Take yourself off on a très authentic trip to France at Camping La Baie du Mont Saint Michel in the typically Breton village of Céaux… A stay here will have you bounding around the beaches, countryside and UNESCO-registered attractions of the Lower Normandy region, including the handsome Mont Saint-Michel about a 15-minute drive away. This abbey-topped mini isle just offshore is one of the region’s most stately sights – eye it from another part of the seaside at Pointe de Roche Torin (about a 15-minute cycle ride on a rented bike from Camping La Baie du Mont Saint Michel) or take a car to beaches like Bec d’Andaine (20 minutes), Jullouville (30) and Carolles (also 30) for sandy saunters with spectacular views of the top-notch monument. Horse riding’s to be had at the coast too – ask at the site for recommendations on tour providers. As well as the seaside around the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, the Sélune river’s ripe for roaming – not to mention trout fishing – and is a tad closer than beaches at a five-minute drive. Once hometime comes around, you could extend your trip by journeying home via the Channel Islands – whether Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey or Sark – from Granville (40 minutes’ drive) or St Malo (50 minutes) instead of taking the usual Dunkirk and Calais northern France ferry crossings. Before you do, stock up on French flavours at the small grocery shop in Camping La Baie du Mont Saint Michel, which sells organic and local products including bread and pastries, and has a machine for your morning coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Other facilities at this park include a playground for les enfants as well as ping pong and volleyball facilities.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked We had a lovely stay at Camping La Baie du Mont Saint Michel. The pitches were nice sized and there was everything we needed for our campervan. The pitches were level too which was great as we don't carry anything to even up the ground! The showers were warm, but I found the lights sometimes went out midshower as the light wasn't sensitive enough.

Local attractions

If you chose Granville as the final spot on your trip home, schedule in a little time at the ‘Monaco of the North’ for the Art Deco casino and Dior museum… or have a go at sand yachting on the beaches if you’re more into adrenaline than architecture and clothes. Or was it Saint-Malo that took your fancy? Turn up here for an old town circled by tall granite walls and a cathedral that’s a mix of the Romanesque and Gothic styles with stained-glass showing local history. La Demeure de Corsaire, an 18th-century house and now a museum, is worth dropping by as well to find out more about the area’s privateering past. Before all this of course, you’ll be wanting to set foot on Mont Saint-Michel itself – do this from La Caserne (15 minutes away) then stroll the steep streets for top views back over the coast you came from…
