What customers say

Charming family campsite with spacious, shaded spots. Friendly owners offer a warm welcome. Facilities are usually clean & well-kept, with a pool & play areas kids love. Good for village access & hiking. Some report sloped sites & suggest pre-ordering at the restaurant. A few recent reviews note unwelcoming reception.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked This is lovely small site with a mix of static caravans. Chalets and touring pitches. The touring pitches are luscious green grass, some reasonably level, some you may need levelling blocks for. Facilities were a little dated, but lovely and clean and functional. The village is 5 minutes walk away from the gate at the bottom of the site, where you can find shops, bakery, butchers and brasserie. The pool and restaurant looked good, but we were out of season so they were closed. Lovely walking routes from the site on trails and quiet roads. The owners were lovely, friendly and very helpful.

Disliked Nothing. Note - WiFi not available on the pitches. Watch out for ticks if you let your dog off it's lead in the nearby Forrest.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Great campsite. The sites are very large and shaded by beautiful trees. Christelle and Jérôme are lovely hosts, friendly and warm. There is a restaurant on site, but beware that you need to preorder, so if you’re planning to arrive later in the afternoon and wish to eat there, it’s best to give Christelle a call. The burgers ans really good and so is the barbecue-roasted chicken (only available a couple of days a week I think). Kids loved the pool and spent hours on the trampoline. There is also a bakery in the village to which we could send the kids to grab goodies for breakfast in the morning. There are also many hiking trails starting in the village. We did one that went through the hamlet of Rompadour… gorgeous!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked The toilets were clean and there was hot water in the showers.

Disliked Very disappointing stay
We arrived at the campsite to an unwelcoming and hostile reception from the hosts. There was no proper check-in process, and it was immediately clear that our presence was an inconvenience to them. They rolled their eyes and spoke about us while we were standing right there.

Although the campsite advertised key services, we were unable to access them. The restaurant wasn’t serving food, and the laundry room was locked. We were told we’d need to get a key, but the washing machine was unavailable because the hosts were using it to wash their own sheets. When we later asked again for the laundry key, we were met with more eye-rolling and were reluctantly escorted to the room, only for it to be locked again afterwards.

When we finally finished our washing and asked to use the dryer, we were told it was too late. This was particularly frustrating as our load had been delayed earlier in the day while waiting for the hosts to finish their own laundry.

Power optional grass campsite

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Beautiful camp site, a pretty village within walking distance. Wonderful welcome from the lady who runs it. Facilities are clean and camp site is quiet. If you have families it has everything too. There is only one 'proper' toilet the others are squatting ones ( that's the only downfall to us). We are sorry to leave this Beautiful place. Ellen n David

Disliked Toilet are squatting toilets all but one, which everyone wants to use. Very very cold at night time because of altitude

Local attractions

Got a taste for that zipline? Take it to the next level at the Forêt Aventure Cunlhat adventure park (20 minutes’ drive), where you can leap from tree to tree on a series of ziplines, rope walkways and nets. Back down at ground level, it’s worth hiring mountain bikes on site to take out for local rides; it’s a little hilly around here so they’ve invested in some e-bikes to give you that little extra push up the slopes. Hilly is in fact a bit of an understatement, as you’ll note when you see the sizeable Puy-de-Dôme volcano, an hour away. Learn about its origins at the excellent Vulcania park or just sit back and let the train propel you up towards the summit. More leisurely train action can be had with a scenic ride on the Agrivap tourist train from Ambert (half an hour). Other options for days out might include the Parc Animalier d’Auvergne (45 minutes away), Château de Mons (half an hour) and Un Jardin pour la Terre (half an hour), a botanic garden that’s gathered plants from all corners of the world into its themed areas.
