It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful rural site by the Ourbise river 10km from Casteljaloux
- 20 kilometres from Nérac, gateway to the Armagnac vineyards
- Fishing lake, pool, restaurant and English library
A river, a fishing lake and even the occasional wild boar sighting all await at the peaceful rural site of Moulin de Campech, in the Lot-et-Garonne close to Landes Forest. Although it's set in quiet countryside, it's a cinch to swing off the motorway for a stay here, as de Campech is easily accessible from the A62 running from Toulouse to Bordeaux.
Moulin de Campech is centred around a restored mill, on green and well-kept grounds on the banks of the Ourbise river and on the edge of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park. It's about half an hour's drive from the Armagnac region, starting in Nérac to the south east, and about 10 minutes from the lake and spa of Casteljaloux. Walibi theme park is within 35 minutes.
Make for the mill of Moulin de Campech for foodie evenings in summer: it now houses the bar and restaurant, where you can work your way through the daily four-course set menu including wine and coffee. To attempt your own elaborate barbecue meal, a small shop opens on site in high season for supplies and the nearest shops are in Villefranche-du-Queyran, under 10 minutes' drive away.
The park also has a fishing lake to try your luck at landing trout, carp and perch; a heated pool open in high season, and an English library for tomes to drift off over after a splendid south-eastern France day.

Local attractions
The countryside town of Casteljaloux should be an early sightseeing/leisurely stop, for half-timbered buildings in the town centre, a thermal spa for deserved pampering, and access to the Lac de Clarens with lakeside beach and leisure centre with golf course.
If you're fine with falling into the water more than expected, tackle the inflatable obstacle course on the surface of the lake at AquaFun Park Clarens; if not, chance your odds at Lac de Clarens's Casino Casteljaloux or try a paddleboarding trip or tree climbing adventure on and around the water.
Grownup and kid-friendly pursuits are within 30 to 35 minutes' drive, at the Armagnac vineyards around Nérac for the former and the rides and rollercoasters of Walibi Sud-Ouest at Roquefort for the latter. Villascopia, the Gallo-Roman site and interactive museum 35 minutes away at Castelculier, should suit all sorts.
For wildlife watching, look out for deer, kingfishers, birds of prey and wild boar among the hiking and cycling paths of Landes Forest.
