The history of Le Domaine du Moulin Neuf 1605 stretches all the way back to the 11th century – and it’s not difficult to see why people across several centuries have been keen to settle in this gorgeous Dordogne location on the banks of the Périgord river. These days the 60-acre property has been preserved as a nature reserve centred around the traditional buildings at its heart. Without even leaving the property you’ll be able to take walks in the 50-acre forest, fish for brown trout, carp and pike in the 2.5-acre lake or take a dip in the natural waters of the swimming lake (there’s a jetty for easy access, with a rowing boat and pedal boat that guests can borrow too). If you’re a little unsure about lake swimming, don’t worry – you can instead swim in the heated outdoor pool, which is flanked by loungers, chairs and a warm solar shower. In keeping with the relaxed vibe of this place, all the pitches are spacious and secluded, with sunny and shaded spots and plenty of peace and privacy for a wild camping-style adventure. You’ll be allowed to light barbecues or campfires for cooking and keeping warm, and you’ll have access to shared facilities including a launderette, a washing-up area, picnic tables, a wifi service and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Being within the boundaries of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park but just off a main road means that this Saint-Priest-les-Fougères spot is a handy base for all sorts of outings including walks, bike rides and kayaking or visits to caves, castles and traditional villages.
