  • Peaceful family park over five hectares in the Périgord Vert
  • Easy access to traditional villages, vineyards, walks and bike rides
  • Ponds, bar, pool, playground and walking paths
It's the Dordogne, so you'll already know it's going to be pretty lush. But Moulin du Châtain in the Périgord Vert five kilometres from Payzac is a splendid site even for these surroundings. The site's setting on the Belles Dames stream is surrounded by ponds and has five peaceful green hectares. Traditional villages, vineyards, walks and bike rides are all easy to access from here, but you'll want to stick around the site for much of your holiday too, whether you fancy strolling or just lounging about (avec eats). Peaceful picnic areas are dotted around the park, alongside excellent leisure facilities including a pool and a paddling pool, volleyball, ping pong, a library with board games, and a playground with slides, sandpit and a trampoline. The site also has a bar for guests' use.

Local attractions

A path through the site leads to the waterfall of the stream of Belles Dames, or you can potter for a kilometre from to the eco museum of Papeterie De Vaux, delving into the region's lengthy paper and stationery industry. Moulin du Châtain borders the Corrèze region, in a rural setting of caves, old villages and forges such as the nearby the Forges Savignac Lédrier in the Auvézère valley. The team also recommends hiking around the Auvezère gorges about half an hour away, visiting the village and cave of Tourtoirac, and exploring the châteaux of Jumilhac and Hautefort, both within 40 minutes. A leisure centre and indoor and outdoor activities of all sorts are at Rouffiac, 15 minutes' drive away.
