- Glamping in unusual accommodation in Dordogne woodland
- A 20-minute drive from Brantôme; half an hour from Périgueux
- Eco-friendly park with hiking trails, pétanque and breakfast delivery
You may well think that Ô Bois Dormant sounds like something out of a fairytale – and it’s unlikely that you’ll change your mind when you’ve seen the pics of this gorgeous glamping site in the Dordogne countryside, just under 10 minutes’ drive from the little village of Lempzours.
This is the Périgord Vert, and all the unusual accommodation options here have been set up to make the most of their surroundings, with fine views onto the woodlands in which they’re set. There’s plenty of space here too, as the units are well spread around to give each one a feeling of true seclusion, with hiking trails leaving directly from the park if you'd like to see a bit more of your setting.
Back at base, each of the smart glamping units is a comfy place to stay with its own style and character. Each one has a private toilet inside or nearby; there’s also a shared bathroom block with individual shower rooms.
Also shared are the communal kitchen facilities, although if you don’t fancy prepping your own food, you can have breakfast delivered to your accommodation (highly recommended for eating out in the fresh air…) A pétanque court and games of ping pong, molkky and various board games are also around to avail yourselves of.
There’s a strong eco-friendly vibe at this park – most of the units are off grid, with candles and solar lighting provided, and the water is treated with a clever phyto-purification system that helps to preserve the environment.

Local attractions
Once the views on site have given you a taster, you’ll no doubt want to be out and about, perhaps enlisting the help of the local horse riding centre (10 minutes’ drive) or mountain bike hire outfit (20 minutes). If you’re concerned about getting lost while cycling, maybe try out the Velorail Périgord Vert (20 minutes) instead – you’ll be confined to a route along an old railway line so there’s no going astray.
A canoe trip from Brantôme (20 minutes) is another popular way to take in some of the scenery – and while you’re there you really must stick around to visit the abbey and the troglodyte caves.
For more of the fancy buildings, seek out Château de Puyguilhem (20 minutes), Château de Bourdeilles (25 minutes) or Château de Jumilhac (40 minutes); if it was the troglodytes that tickled your fancy, follow up with more cave action at Grotte de Villars (20 minutes).
Beyond all that, you may like to potter around the medieval centre of Périgueux (half an hour) or spend more time in the trees at Cornille Aventure (20 minutes).
