  • Five-hectare car-free site with views of limestone cliffs
  • A 20-minute drive from Domme and 30 from Sarlat
  • Pool, summer kitchen and orchard with loungers and swing chairs
Just simply splendid… that’s Dordogne Glamping in a nutshell. This two-hectare site is in the Périgord Noir with postcard-worthy views of the surrounding limestone crags. It’s perfectly peaceful too: a car-free policy means you’ll park just outside the main area and feel a world away from the everyday once you’re safely ensconced inside. Overpacked? No problem: staff are on hand to help you carry your cases. And if you do work up a bit of a sweat having brought everything including the kitchen sink, a pool awaits for cooling dips… The site also has a pretty orchard that's just the spot for sunning yourself afterwards on one of the loungers or swing chairs. If you can bear to tear yourself away from the pool or your sun lounger to attend to practical matters, the site has a summer kitchen for feeding the clan – and a supermarket's around a 10-minute drive for supplies. Staying in July and August? Head over to Bouzic, the nearest village at under a half an hour's stroll away, where you can fill up on French fare at a night market with a festive feeling… or just go for the wine…

Local attractions

The Dordogne countryside’s a prime place for walking, biking and horse riding, but if you want to see this lush landscape from way up high, book a hot air balloon trip from La Roque-Gageac, under a 20-minute drive away. The village is well worth a totter around afterwards too, as it sits pretty at the bottom of a cliff on the northern banks of the Dordogne river. For sights to rival these, early risers can set their sights on the traditional yellow and white stone buildings of Beynac-et-Cazenac during sunrise, under 10 minutes' drive further along from La Roque-Gageac. Or make for the village of Domme with its valley views, a 20-minute drive away. Travelling with the kids? Take the Domme Express mini tourist train, or seek out the secret cave system hidden right underneath the central square. If kayaking and canoeing float your boat, take a leisurely ride on the Dordogne river from Cénac-et-Saint-Julien, about 10 minutes away in the car. Or go past the nearest town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, around a half an hour's drive, and go deep into the Lascaux caves, adding another 25 minutes or so on to the journey, to see the impressive pre-historic paintings and engravings.
