- Well-equipped site in 50 hectares of forest 20 mins' drive from Puyo
- Mirador Miramera 10 minutes' drive; easy access from E30 road
- Breakfast included; Swiss-style bistro on site, plus springwater pools
With a popular Swiss-style bistro on site, there’s a distinct European tinge to the setup at Finca de la Vaca. But this is definitely Ecuador – and a particularly gorgeous part of it as well.
In the Morona Santiago area about 20 minutes' drive from Puyo, this site has a fabulous 50 hectares of forest to its name, with trails taking you up to viewpoints and down to the lagoon or riverside for a freshwater swim or paddle. There are also gardens to stroll through, and you can take a dip in the springwater pools or the hot tub if the river doesn’t appeal.
With waterfalls to walk to and lots of lush greenery all around, you’ll probably feel like you’re right out in the middle of the jungle – but that's only partly true, because this location is just a few minutes’ drive from the E30 (the main road running from Puyo to Baños). And that means that as well as having gorgeous surroundings to explore you’ll also be able to get out and about easily enough – perhaps to snap photos from the Mirador Mera viewpoint or to take the kids to nearby family attractions like animal parks.
As well as being well located, this is a nicely set up site with plenty of handy facilities including a wifi connection, a play area and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Breakfast is included in the rate for all guests, and the bistro is open from lunchtime to evening (6pm on Sundays) for Swiss-style meals including cheesy fondues.

Local attractions
The views around the site are pretty fabulous – but for the best shots of the area's spectacular scenery you’ll be best going to Mirador Miramera (10 minutes’ drive), from where you can see Cotopaxi and other volcanoes on a clear day. Another great option is the Indichuris viewpoint (an hour and a half), where intrepid types can get on the giant swing while others enjoy hanging out in hammocks.
In a similar area is Reserva De Bosque Tropical Hola Vida (an hour and a half), which has trails through a 225-hectare private reserve ending up at a spectacular 40-metre waterfall with a lovely pool to swim in.
Do any of these walks and you're bound to spot some wildlife as you go – but for guaranteed sightings and a deeper insight into what you’re seeing you’ll need to try one of the nearby wildlife parks. DEDALMA Butterfly Pavilion (15 minutes) and Parque Etnobotánico Omaere (35 minutes) are both good options, or you can seek out bigger beasts at Paseo de los Monos or Zoorefugio Tarqui (both 35 minutes).
