It's free, quick and easy!
- Scenic South Bohemia site in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands
- Clean and safe two-hectare lake with a sandy beach
- Water polo, fishing, pool, waterslide, bistro, library and bread sales
However you manage it, make sure you get significant time at this Czech Republic park. For South Bohemia's Camping Fontana has its own lake, cheap eats in its bistro, and a high-up setting free from floods and between Vienna and Prague.
It's about an hour and three quarters' drive to Vienna from here, and about two hours and 40 minutes to Prague; closer to home, Fontana's Počátky and Pelhřimov District placement is on the western tip of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, in a land of hiking, peaks, valleys and castles. Horse riding, cycling, climbing, tennis and indoor pools are all at your leisurely disposal in the region.
But you'll likely want a look at the lake first. The waters at Camping Fontana are fed by four lakes higher above, meaning they're always clear and clean as the water is regularly renewed. At over two hectares the lake has loads of space for all to swim, take out dinghies or rafts, or find a spot for fishing or a picnic alongside. There's a sandy beach too for sandcastle comps and general idling, something that just might be a tad popular with smaller guests...
If you need yet more water, an outdoor pool with waterslide was added to Camping Fontana in 2018. It's also recommended that you drop into reception while staying on site, for tour booking, advice on what to see and do, and a large library with free book and magazine loans for all ages. You'll also be able to pick up a free tea or coffee, as well as essential groceries and fresh rolls if you order them the day before.

Local attractions
Get stuck into the leisure options at and around the lake for your first chunk of time here, such as water polo, fishing and rowing competitions arranged by the Fontana team, or football and volleyball matches back around the grounds.
Then get ready to explore, hiking the hills and low peaks of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands for spectacular scenery and greenery all around. The highest peak in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, Javořice at 837 metres, is about 45 minutes' drive away for energetic clambers.
Local town Počátky a 10-minute drive away is home to the Počátky Municipal Museum and its exhibition on the area as well as life here in the 19th century. Počátky's also the place to set off on the 55-kilometre Otokar Březina Trail, named after the poet who was born in the town: it's well worth a wander for at least part of its path, passing through Telč, Nová Říše and Jaroměřice.
