  • Glamping in safari tents in the small village of Kolodeje nad Luznici
  • Bechyně, Pisek and Tabor all within a half-hour drive
  • Direct access to the river for fishing, boating and swimming
What a prime position this is… Camping Prima is in a properly peaceful spot right on the banks of the Luznici river in the little village of Kolodeje nad Luznici, with the larger South Bohemia town of Týn nad Vltavou five minutes’ drive away for restaurants, supermarkets and other amenities. The watery outlook is, of course, pretty fab – and the best place to take it in is the site’s restaurant, where you can combine view-gazing with sipping coffee or beer, or dining on traditional Czech dishes. If those views encourage you to get stuck in, you can do that too, as there’s direct access to the river for lazy days spent fishing, paddling small boats, taking dips or chilling out at the grass sunbathing area (while the kids hit the playground or table tennis if they require a little more action). That laidback life stretches to your digs, too – you need expend minimal effort to get set up, as the safari tents have been set up with much of what you'll need, including beds, a dining table and a nifty mobile kitchen that can be set up for indoor or outdoor cooking as you please. Barbecues are welcome too if you wish; pick up essential bits at the small shop, and order in bread for a fresh brekkie next morning. Tear yourselves away from all this and outings nearby might include visits to castles, museums and spas, or peaceful walks/bike rides; day trips to Prague, just over an hour and a half away, are doable too.

Local attractions

This is an area that’s stacked with gorgeous buildings to visit. Start your explores nearby with a five-minute wander to Zamek Mitrowicz, followed by a trip to the town of Týn nad Vltavou (five minutes’ drive/45 minutes’ walk) for riverside strolls and old churches. Another fine castle is over in Bechyně (15 minutes’ drive), along with a medieval monastery, a ceramics museum and a firefighting museum where you can view retro fire engines. If the engineering of the past is your sort of thing, carry on to the Museum of Historic Vehicles and Agricultural Equipment (15 minutes). Not lost your castle enthusiasm yet? Take off to Tábor (half an hour) to visit Kotnov Castle and delve underground on a tour of the town’s medieval tunnels. Back up at ground level, there’s also a zoo and a sweet museum dedicated to chocolate and marzipan. And even if you think you’ve got no more appetite for castles, it’s worth making the effort to get to Zvikov Castle (40 minutes), in a stunning spot on its own island in the Vltava.
