These cosy wooden cabins are set in greenery-filled gardens on the edge of Cajicá, giving guests both a peaceful experience and easy access to the town’s various shops and eateries.
This is a small-scale site with just a handful of lodges and good security in place, so it’s a good safe space to relax in. Outside the cabin is a firepit and an outdoor table; you’ll also have access to kitchen appliances including a microwave, freezer, kettle and coffee maker so you’ll be able to sort hot and cold drinks and warm meals for the table.
To keep life nice and easy, bed linen and towels are supplied here – and with all those practicalities dealt with, you can get on with the important business of getting out to explore the area. And there’s plenty to see and do nearby, as this site is well located for Bogotá, Lake Guatavita and the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral, among other attractions. The Centro Comercial Fontanar is about 10 minutes’ drive away as well – a huge modern complex with a cinema as well as a long list of shops and places to eat.

Local attractions
This may be a town location but it’s also well placed for rural outings – outdoor activities close by include bike tours, hiking trails, horse riding and paragliding tasters. There are lots of fabulous landscapes to explore around this part of central Colombia, but one of the most intriguing surely has to be Lake Guatavita (an hour’s drive), a sacred lake for the Muisca people and the inspiration for the legend of El Dorado.
If you’ve never been to the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral (25 minutes), a visit to this amazing attraction should certainly be on the cards. The subterranean Catholic church is housed within the tunnels of a former salt mine 180 metres below the surface, and the decorations and colourful lighting give it a very special atmosphere.
Heading south, you’ll get to Bogotá with a drive of around half an hour, for a day spent visiting the Botero Museum and Gold Museum and strolling among the colourful colonial architecture of the Candelaria district.
