- Secluded one-bedroom lodge on the car-free island of Tierra Bomba
- A 25-minute boat ride from Cartagena; Bocachica 50 minutes’ walk
- Beach access; balcony with spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea
Close your eyes and picture a lush, jungle-covered island in the Caribbean Sea. Then picture yourself in a remote wooden cabin with a balcony overlooking the water… It might sound like a tropical dream, but that’s exactly what awaits at Pamaduih.
This peaceful one-bedroom lodge sits on the western coast of Tierra Bomba Island, just off the shore of Cartagena (a 25-minute boat ride away), in northern Colombia. If you’re not a confident Spanish speaker, there’s no need to worry about arranging transportation, because the Pamaduih team will be happy to sort it all out for you (on request). All you have to worry about is relaxing and making the most of the spectacular sea views.
Tierra Bomba is a car-free island (you’ll have to leave your own vehicle in the Bocagrande area of Cartagena), which means there is no public transportation here; as a matter of fact, there are no paved roads, either. If you wish to leave the site, you must be accompanied by a member of staff, since paths are not marked, and a knowledgeable guide is required. However, you can walk freely within the property, which has direct access to the sea and its own private dock.
The island has no shops or pharmacies, so you are also advised to bring your own groceries (and anything else you might need for your stay) from Bocagrande. The cabin has a well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a shower. Please note, however: there is no hot water on site.

Local attractions
In Cartagena (25 minutes by boat), check out the 17th-century San Felipe de Barajas Fort. Like the expansive Walls of Cartagena, it forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage site that comprises the city’s Spanish-built complex of fortifications. Nearby sculptures include Las Botas Viejas, a bronze portraying an oversized pair of shoes.
On the outskirts of Cartagena (50 minutes’ drive from Bocagrande), Cartagena Botanical Garden Guillermo Piñeres is the place to admire tropical plants such as giant cashew trees and American rattans. The lush setting attracts plenty of wildlife, too, and you might catch glimpses of monkeys, birds and butterflies.
Ask your guide to take you to Bocachica (50 minutes’ walk), a quiet town on the southernmost tip of Tierra Bomba. In addition to palm-fringed beaches and a handful of small restaurants, the town has the seafront Fuerte de San Fernando military fortress and the hilltop Fuerte-Batería de San José, both dating from the 18th century.
