  • Private, dog-friendly bush campground with 10 acres in Inglewood
  • A 20-minute drive to Kooyoora State Park; gold fossicking in the area
  • Cafés, pubs, kiosks, museums, pool and sports within walking distance
If a little fishing, gold fossicking or hiking is up your street, make your way to Inglewood Caravan Park, a private 10-acre bush site just over a kilometre from the town centre of Inglewood. On the Calder Highway, Inglewood is 35 minutes’ drive west of Bendigo and two hours and 10 minutes’ drive northwest of Melbourne. So, what to expect from this site? First off, the town’s cafés, pubs, shops, a post office and other facilities are all within a short walk, meaning tasty treats are never too hard to track down. As for the site itself, which is managed by Jerry and Pauline Wellman, there are lots of facilities for your convenience, including water, wifi and barbecues for the times when you’d rather create a spectacular spread of your own. From this location, you’ll be set to seek out state forests too. Kooyoora State Park is 20 minutes’ drive to the west and has huge granite boulders with an excellent lookout at the top. Bike, four-wheel drive or saunter your way over the many trails or simply stroll around the boulders and into the Melville Caves, where the bushranger Captain Melville and his gang are rumoured to have based themselves during the 1850s. Around Inglewood and the surrounding Loddon Shire, there’s plenty still to do: browse the yesteryear main street shops and go gold fossicking in the so-called ‘Golden Triangle’ including Inglewood, fish on the Loddon river (five minutes’ drive) or take off to one of the region’s wineries further out. Inglewood also has tennis, football, netball, bowls facilities, an outdoor swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course all within walking distance of the site for the sporting types.

Local attractions

If you like to explore the history of a destination, there are historic buildings and churches in Inglewood, including a historic courthouse, town hall, war memorial, antique or collectible shops and the Fincham pipe organ in St Augustine’s Anglican Church. Of course, gold fossicking will introduce you to the legacy of the gold rush area too. Rather the fan of wildlife and nature? Birdwatching in Inglewood Nature Conservation Reserve (10 minutes’ walk) might be your first action point. Along with Kooyoora State Park, that means lots of opportunities for wildlife watching, off-roading, conservation and gold prospecting. Find yourself a good fishing spot at Bridgewater on Loddon (five minutes' drive) or Lake Boort (40 minutes). The former’s rather splendid for a peaceful riverside walk or an outing on a boat. Back in Inglewood, other excellent attractions include the Eucalyptus Distillery Museum (five minutes’ walk), to find out all about the eucalyptus oil industry, or Maxwell's Mine to the north of the town.
