Located in Central Queensland, BIG4 Breeze Holiday Parks - Cania Gorge is the holiday park of choice for families looking for adventures in Cania Gorge National Park, an ancient landscape shaped by millions of years of weather erosion. On site everything is made easy for effortless family holidays. The accommodation units are near all the park’s facilities – starting with spacious family bathrooms and laundry facilities to keep everybody and everything spick and span. The park is cleverly organised so everyone has plenty to keep them entertained. Younger offspring might like to feed the brightly coloured parrots or mess around on the jumping pillow, while active older kids keep busy playing frisbee golf or tennis (hire racquets on site), swimming laps of the pool, kayaking at Cania Dam or splashing around on the water-park rides. Activities geared towards adults include fishing on the reservoir, wine-tasting sessions and movie nights at the outdoor cinema. Life at the park is pretty laid-back when it comes to catering too, with communal open fires for barbecues and a convenience store for stocking up on foodie essentials. Your furry friends are also welcome to come along for the ride, so you don’t need to leave anyone at home.

Local attractions

Cania Gorge National Park (five minutes’ drive) is one of Queensland’s hidden secrets. It’s an ancient place created over 200 million years by natural weather events, and what’s left now are towering cliffs, caves, sheltered gorges and ancient Aboriginal art on sandstone rock faces. It’s best explored on foot, and there are several way-marked trails for people of all abilities and fitness – if you have kids in tow, try the short (20 minutes’ walk) loop on the Big Foot Walk to spy a four-toed foot imprinted on the cliffside, or follow the creekside trail to the site of the former Shamrock gold mine (45 minutes). This natural wonderland is home to more than 150 plant species and 90 bird species including colourful rainbow lorikeets, king parrots and wompoo pigeons. Take a camera and binoculars to go wildlife watching and spot (hopefully) brush-tailed rock-wallabies and common bent-wing bats, while elusive platypus live in waterholes below Cania Dam (five minutes’ drive).
