Yurt (eight person)

Liked: Very good location, beautiful views from the yurt, good equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, hot showers, very affordable for families. Would be ideal for larger families to rent the 2 yurts together.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike about the yurts, although depending on guests in the other yurt, not all guests understand meaning of shared facilities and keeping clean, leaving knives around fire and fire lit etc.

Bunkhouse

Liked: No phone signal!!! this was the best part so we all did activities together. there is a bbq area with seats. The barn took me back to the 1970s when we arrived bulbs were missing which added to the experiance so we went round looking for bulbs. cooking facilities are great. just dont come here is you are looking for 5 star hotel, this is for people who find fun in hardships instead of complaining about it. The owner is a great guy and his sheep dog is very friendly

Bunkhouse

Liked: When we booked the bunkhouse we were not expecting what we found...this place is just awesome the walls filled with lovely painted messages from children and groups from the past the bunkhouse is airy and comfortable the beds have clean fitted sheets and pillows are provided, the bunkhouse has a fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, toaster and all the utensils you could need. It has comfortable couches and a double sofa bed, the bathroom is a spacious sink full running clean drinking water, hot water boiler and self heated electric shower...the beds were very comfortable. The bunkhouse has a box of fantastic board games and adult games such a drinking game. We loved our stay at the bunkhouse and will definitely be returning. Our host Jet (amazing name) made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

Disliked: There wasn't really anything we disliked as it was more than we expected...all I can say is that for other people's reference expect rustic converted bar, if you don't like dust or creepy crawlys and you like everything spick and span then this place might not be for you, but if you want a fun getaway... away from the hustle and bustle and and a internet detox and quality time together then this is perfect.

Eco-friendly yurt (seven person)

Liked: Very friendly host. The yurt and surrounding site was really rustic and beautiful views. A great place if you are looking for a natural rustic place with a comfy and cozy yurt. Plenty of firewood supplied to warm the yurt in the evening with the wood burning stove. Kitchen outbuilding was well stocked with everything needed. We real enjoyed our stay, thank you!

Disliked: Constructive criticism is that the track leading to the yurt and camping field could do with some hardcore in places to fill in some really uneven areas, I was quite nervous about scraping the bottom of my car. Drive really carefully along here.

Disliked: For us nothing, we love the outdoors ! However, this site really is a proper camp site on a farm so don’t expect the ritz.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Choice of where to pitch tent.

Disliked: Rundown, no signage, deserted, no footpath to the beach as described. Expensive for a couple to stay.

From the manager: Good morning, sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. There are signs. We have used old surfboards for this point to the toilets and they point to the field. We also send out a what3words to the location and a site map which I have checked you did get sent. As for the site being rundown, this is a very basic site in a very windy coastal environment so within a week things can look windblown as for cutting grass. For example, if that is something you were thinking about it is a working farm and we only cut the grass by using the animals. This is not a groomed site. However, the location linked with views I would think it's very hard to give such a low mark.

Wonderful location, nightmare toilets.

Yurt (eight person)

Liked: Fantastic location with a wonderful view and really like the yurt set-up it's like a two family settlement. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need, fridge, stove, cutlery, plates, pots & pans etc.

Disliked: The toilets were the worst I've seen anywhere. Picture a chasm that drops as far as the distance from your upstairs bedroom window full of other people's waste, flies and toilet roll hanging off various ledges of the chasm wall with a toilet seat ontop. We are not fans of compost toilets but even proper compost toilets are a luxury compared to this horror. It's a real shame as the rest was ideal.

Bunkhouse

Liked: Sir Benfro/Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion are very beautiful parts of the world.

Disliked: We (3 families) had booked to stay in the bunk house for 2 nights on 6th of May bank holiday weekend. When we arrived we were pretty shocked by the bunkhouse. It was very different to the photo on the website and it was very run down including holes in the walls in one of the bedrooms and no sides on 2 of the corner bunk beds. There was only a bolt lock on the front door (no key or anything) so there was no way to lock and keep the property secure if we went out. The area surrounding the bunkhouse was run down and over grown. There was barbed wire in weeds near the bunkhouse, an old bath and a pair of pants next to it. There were open sheds with catering equipment (including knives), farm machinery and an axe. There was also a slurry pit (which was only partially secure). The host arrived about three quarters of an hour after we arrived. I was a bit upset about the conditions at the property and proceeded to show him the holes in the bedroom wall. The host thanked me for bringing the holes to his attention and later told us we could use a gas patio heater inside the property because (he joked) there was plenty of ventilation. The host told us that he didn’t live on site, it was unmanned. He also said that there was no mains water. The water was untreated and from a borehole. He said it would be our choice whether or not to drink it. The children had already drunk from it. As we were not told prior to arriving we hadn’t known to bring drinking water with us. The location is remote and nowhere for miles to buy water. We only felt able to stay for one night. It just wasn’t suitable for families to stay there. The kids naturally wanted to wander around this new environment and seeing as the sheds were open it was dangerous. It was bank holiday weekend and other accommodation in the area was unavailable so our trip was cut short. Luckily, we had only paid for one night at £10 a head (£120). We have asked the host for a refund twice but he has refused. He has also refused when contacted by Pitch Up. He says the accommodation is ‘basic’ and that’s why it’s £10 a head. He has since said it’s like ‘indoor camping’. The truth is, I’ve stayed in quite a few bunkhouses and I’m fine with basic, no frills accommodation. I also camp every year; the conditions in a tent are much more desirable compared to this bunkhouse and other bunkhouses I’ve stayed have been clean, basic and without holes in the walls etc. Staying in this bunkhouse was not like other bunkhouses I’ve stayed in. This was not ‘basic’ and ‘no frills’, it was run down and dangerous. The host did not make us aware of the conditions before we arrived. If he had then it would have been fair enough. He has been unwilling to accept any criticism and he has been pretty condescending in his replies. I expect his reply to this post will be equally condescending but if you have kids I strongly recommend you don’t book this property. Diolch/Thanks for your time.

From the manager: It is set at a budget price, and the way a bunk house/ camping barn is, hence the name and price. less than a tent pitch! The insulting comments about Rusty tractors are actually the farm tractors and being by the sea with out having millions to spend on new ones they will be rusty! PARENTAL CONTROL ! would be a good idea to work on, as you were not asked to climb in to every shed, search for every key and generally disrespect everything.. Your cleverly taken photo of the barbed wire was near fence posts if I am not wrong the other side of the yard due to us doing fencing. The areas I told you not to go you decided to allow them to WHY? DITO on taking the criticism, And you did not actually pay for the whole group also.

Local attractions

If history's the thing, take a trip into Cardigan town centre (15 minutes' drive) and make for the castle. This historic building also hosts regular event nights and concerts and has its own restaurant where you can have a sit-down meal or light bite while watching the town and port below. As well as its live-in animals, guests at Cardigan Bay Camping may well spot wild foxes, badgers and frogs. If you or your kids are inspired by all of this nature, take a trip to the Welsh Wildlife Centre near Cilgerran (20 minutes), where bird hides, rural trails and a visitor centre make it simple to get to grips with the local landscape. Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park (25 minutes) should also be on your radar – here you can see dolphins, seals, red kites and a whole host of friendly farm animals all in one place. Further afield, you might want to take the kids go-karting in Haverfordwest (40 minutes), to the rides and regular fireworks events at Oakwood Theme Park (50 minutes) or down the coast to St Davids to see Dr Beynon's Bug Farm (50 minutes).
