  • Family park a short stroll from the beach and 5 mins' drive to Tenby
  • Free evening entertainment: children welcome
  • Playground, games room, lounge bar and patio
There are some spectacular sands on the coast of west Wales. (And on the north and south coasts, but you can get to them on your next break.) Make for Whitewell Holiday Park Caravan and Camping to be in the sandy thick of things in the west: this family-run site is five minutes' walk from the nearest beach and five minutes' drive to the sea fishing and award-winning sands of Tenby. Whitewell's also close to fab family days out at the likes of Folly Farm, Heatherton World of Activities and Tenby's Dinosaur Park – if the kids aren't too tuckered out after a day at those, they're welcome at the lounge bar in the evenings to join in the entertainment: karaoke, disco, dancing, bingo and trivia evenings run in July and August. All entertainment is included in the pitch price, and the lounge bar also has two large widescreen TVs to catch up on the latest from the outside world. The shower block, next to the bar, has hot water, deep hot water basins and loos. The park also has a laundry room with storage, plus a playground and a games room with pool table and arcade games. For food, meals and takeaways are available from the bar to have there or to take to the tables, chairs and umbrellas of the patio for alfresco eats.

Local attractions

There are some spectacular beaches around these parts, with the closest, Lydstep, less than half a mile away from Whitewell. Jetskis and kayaks can be hired here if you want to take to the water, and a couple of golf courses – from many in the area – are nearby. Tenby, a few minutes' drive away, is worth at least a few days, on its North, South and Castle beaches, browsing around its shops, cafés and restaurants or taking a seal safari trip. From Tenby harbour, one of the most popular things to do in the area is the boat trip to tiny Caldey Island, one of the Holy Islands of Britain and still with a Trappist monk population. Tenby harbour is also where anglers go to cast off; sea angling trips are easy to organise from Tenby too. Little monsters should enjoy playing among the dinosaurs in the woods at Tenby's Dinosaur Park where there are plenty of other things going on, like rides, indoor and outdoor play, a games garden and a mile-long dinosaur trail. Just outside Tenby, Heatherton World of Activities and Manor Wildlife Park opposite will keep everyone busy for another day or two among the animals, paintballing and go-karting. After that, the animals and play of award-winning Folly Farm are about five miles from Tenby along the coast at Kilgetty.
