  • Simple pitches with a warm welcome at a Pembrokeshire rugby club
  • A 10-minute walk from the centre of St Davids
  • Clubhouse on site for food and drink; dogs and kids welcome
Wales is famously a nation that loves its rugby – so what could be more fitting than staying right on site at a Pembrokeshire rugby club? St Davids Rugby Club should make a splendid base for exploring around north Pembrokeshire… To start with, the site is just a 10-minute walk from the centre of St Davids, Wales' smallest city, where there are shops, places to eat and attractions like the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. Coastal favourites like Solva, Porthclais and Whitesands beach are all nearby – and if you need any tips on places to go, you’ll be in the right place to ask a local. Although these pitches are fairly simple in style, they’re safe and flat and you’ll have access to lots of useful facilities including showers, toilets and fresh water. You’ll also be most welcome to join the locals at the clubhouse, which has a pool table and dartboard as well as serving a good range of food and drinks. (Pint of beer that helps support a community enterprise? Be rude not to…) Don’t worry, you won’t have to get involved in any scrums when staying at St Davids Rugby Club as the pitches are well away from the rugby pitches. What you will be doing by staying here is helping to support Wales’ most westerly club, with profits from the campsite going towards keeping the game running in the UK’s smallest city.

What customers say

Great quiet spot near St Davids for shops, pubs, and beaches. Friendly staff and a relaxed vibe. Basic but sufficient facilities for most, though can get crowded. Good clubhouse/food. Many want to return for the location and value.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Closeness to city centre. Quiet, well spaced with good walks nearby. Basic but usable toilet and shower.

Disliked Only one toilet in same room as shower, bit difficult if lots of vans/tents stopping. Unsure where grey/black waste disposal is, no signage.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked On arrival the staff were very helpful and friendly. Parked on grass which was flat enough not to need chocks. 1 toilet and shower and wash basin but not an issue for us. Was a pleasant stay for 2 nights. 10 minutes walk to st David's town with nice pubs and food. would definitely go back.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The location was fantastic for St David’s. It was a quiet site with little road noise or site noise.

Disliked The shower/toilet area needs updating/deep cleaning.
There were 9 motorhomes on site (should only be 5). This meant that the single toilet facility was inadequate for the number of people there. Particularly as the shower/toilet were together.
A price of £15 instead of £20 would have been more appropriate.

Local attractions

Start your stay with a little stroll around St Davids, visiting the cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Oriel y Parc gallery, before heading out of town on a path to Caerfai beach or Whitesands Bay. The latter is a well-known surf location, so you may prefer to drive there (five minutes' drive) if you’ve got boards with you. Walks on the Wales Coast Path are highly recommended, of course – perhaps along to St Non’s Chapel, to the little harbour at Porthclais or all the way along to the pretty village of Solva (10 minutes' drive). Heading north, Porthgain and the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy (both 10 minutes) are also popular spots. This stretch of coast also attracts a whole lot of wildlife, and the best way to see some of that is on a boat trip to Ramsey Island, which you can organise from St Davids. Back on dry land, kids may well be intrigued by a trip to Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm (three minutes’ drive).
