Sunset at newton farm campsite

  • Well-maintained family-run Pembrokeshire site six miles from Pembroke
  • Freshwater West beach five minutes' drive; Barafundle Bay 20 minutes
  • Sea views on one side, with National Trust estate on the other
If you’re heading to Pembrokeshire to explore its famously gorgeous coastline, you’ll probably be particularly delighted to hear you can see the sea from right there on your pitch when you stay at Newton Farm Campsite. This spacious and well-maintained farm site is about six miles west of Pembroke, just off the road heading down towards the fabulous Freshwater West beach (five minutes’ drive away). With the sea views on one side (especially stunning at sunset…) and a backdrop of the National Trust’s Gupton Estate on the other, it’s a pretty place to hang out at all hours of the day. And by night too… as this is a dark-skies area where you should get some good stargazing on clear nights. The grass pitches here are part of a family-run site that’s got a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and access to all the essential facilities including toilets, showers, a washing-up area and chemical disposal. It’s a laidback place where you’ll be allowed to bring along dogs and barbecues or light campfires as long as you’re careful with them all. This site makes a great base for getting out and about to explore this part of Pembrokeshire – several fabulous sights, including Barafundle Bay, the Bosherston lily ponds and the Green Bridge of Wales, are within 20 minutes’ drive, and there are some great family attractions around such as Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo. You might also like to note that the ferry port for services to Rosslare is only about 10 minutes’ drive, making this a handy spot to consider for a stay before or after you cross the Irish Sea.

Spacious pitches with great views near beaches & attractions. Friendly owner praised. Basic but clean facilities, hot showers for a fee. Some note oil refinery proximity & shower quirks. Good for families & dogs due to open space.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Views of the sea and rolling countryside. Plenty of space. Simple toilets and showers but clean (2 of each for men and women) and a simple washing up area. 4 minutes away from Freshwater. What more do you need? Site manager Roland was lovely and welcoming.
Site was exactly as described: basically a large grass field where you can pitch wherever you like.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Clean and quiet site. Close to some stunning beaches, and not too far from tourist hotspots like Tenby. I can confirm that by night, the terminal/refinery/ power station does indeed look like a Fortnite location! Facilities on the site are well maintained and as an update to other reviews, hot water was working in all areas. Normally, we are wild campers so for us this was luxury. But if you’re looking for no frills camping with easy access to Pembrokeshire, then this site is definitely worth a look.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Friendly and welcoming host, with close proximity to ferry port.

Disliked Although the power station wasn’t great to look at during daylight it was quite dazzling at night. The fire from one of the chimneys gave off Welsh Dragon vibes.

Local attractions

The nearest beach, Freshwater West (five minutes’ drive) is one of Pembrokeshire’s finest – it’s a long sandy stretch that’s popular with surfers and surf schools, as well as Harry Potter fans, who come along to see Dobby the House Elf’s grave in the sand dunes. Elsewhere along the coast, lots more lovely beaches await – the likes of Broad Haven South, Barafundle Bay (both 20 minutes) and Tenby (half an hour). Walks on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are highly recommended too, taking you to places like the Green Bridge of Wales rock arch, St Govan’s Chapel and Angle (which has a particularly good pub and café). For family outings, you may like to plan days at places like Pembroke Castle (10 minutes), The Dinosaur Park (20 minutes), Heatherton World of Activities (20 minutes), Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes), Wild Lakes Wales (half an hour)…
