  • Quiet site on a family smallholding with views, well off the main road
  • Saundersfoot and Tenby beaches within 25 minutes' drive
  • Donkeys, alpacas, geese, pygmy goats and ponies on site to meet
The splendid parts of Pembrokeshire are well documented: gorgeous beaches, fab coastal walking, top theme parks and ancient castles… Hole yourselves up for hols at Hideaway Escapes, a mile outside of the market town of Narberth, to be well set for easy access to all the above. If you're an animal enthusiast, you'll be enthusiastic about this lush site too: Hideaway has horses, Shetland ponies, alpacas, geese, pygmy goats, donkeys and Mable the friendly pig to meet, as well as the tiny chipmunk who loves to show off… come armed with nuts to see how much. Hideaway is in a cunningly convenient spot, centrally placed for visiting attractions all over the county – it's 15 minutes' drive to the nearest beach at Amroth; 20 to the beaches of Pendine and Saundersfoot; 25 to Tenby, and half an hour to the surfers’ faves of Broad Haven and Newgale. The area's top theme parks are both about 15 minutes’ drive away, or you could take a half-hour hike to Narberth Castle to delve into local history instead. And after all that lot? There’s plenty of space in the accommodation field for kids to let off steam running about; grownups, meanwhile, can light up a barbie for an evening of bangers and beer while the stars come out overhead. Essential supplies are available in the honesty shop. Creature comforts include two washing-up areas with hot water and a toilet block with hot showers. There's good news for dog owners here too: friendly hounds are welcome on site and have been provided with their own washing area for the hosing down of mucky pups (less welcome news for the dogs themselves, perhaps…)

Liked: Lesley (the owner) was amazing, she made us feel so welcome and went out of her way to ensure we had a great holiday. The site is well maintained and eco friendly with composting toilets and solar uses where possible. There are lovely views over the Welsh hills and woodland full of wildlife. The domestic animals are friendly and very entertaining and most are very happy to fed treats. Some of the animals are very familiar to us Brits while others are a little more exotic, which adds to the charm of Hideaway Escapes. There is a well stocked onsite shop with all the essentials and treats for the animals. The local town is also a lovely place to spend time. It is close to the site with plenty of pubs a pretty good chip shop and an excellent butchers. All in all a lovely holiday and we will be returning in the future.

Liked: Beautiful location and extremely quiet Great attention to small details like the wasp traps, the honesty shop and the animals on site Every where was kept beautifully clean and Sarah was great

Disliked: This was not a dislike just a comment that the showers could do with being updated as there wasn’t hot water in all the sinks and sometimes the showers didn’t work Not a problem when we stayed as there was only us on site and We could just move onto one of the other 3

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: The park near the pitches was ideal. It was a small campsite and a brilliant location for children to explore and visit the farm animals. There were lovely private rent a tent areas off the main field. The owners were very helpful and were always on hand when needed. There were fridge, freezers and chargers available for all to use. It’s a wonderful idea if going non electric or don’t have space to bring with you.

Disliked: The toilet and shower facilities were not very private. We did not feel comfortable using them. The site would benefit from a proper shower/toilet block. Hopefully these will be updated and alternatives put on site.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Staff were lovely and it was convenient with the shop and washing up area they had. Toilets were clean. The animals were close by and we loved the duck hunt. The camp site was surrounded by trees and lay a bit lower, making it ideal for camping in the wind.

Disliked: The playground was unsafe, facilities seemed neglected. Stinging nettles everywhere.

Liked: Family friendly, clean, animals to pet, near to beaches and plenty to do. Honesty box if you needed any essentials which was perfect if you fancied a bar of chocolate and you forgot to pack it.

Disliked: I quite liked it but my daughter complained about the mobile signal / WiFi.
