  • Single static caravan on a farm five minutes’ drive from Kilgetty
  • Folly Farm 10 minutes' walk; Saundersfoot Beach 10 minutes’ drive
  • Lake for specimen carp fishing; produce and eggs for sale on site
Whether you’re after seaside fun, long walks or some contemplative time spent angling, you’ll find it at Pembrokeshire Green Giant, in south-west Wales. At this peaceful spot, a single static caravan sits on the outskirts of the village of Kilgetty (five minutes’ drive) and a 10-minute drive from the coast. On this rewilded 15-acre smallholding surrounded by wildflower meadows, you’ll wake up in the morning to the sound of rustling tree leaves and songbirds warbling. And there’s a lot more action in the skies above, with other local residents including red kites and several species of bats. Grassy paths lead to nearby wetlands and a two-acre lake popular for specimen carp fishing (for which there is an additional charge). All the necessary fishing equipment, from rods to bait, is provided on site, so all you need to worry about is patiently waiting on the shore for the Big One to bite. If you prefer to be the one doing the splashing in the water, there is a small heated swimming pool on site (available by prior arrangement), not to mention the sandy beaches of Saundersfoot Bay (10 minutes’ drive), including sandy Saundersfoot and Coppet Hall, plus Wisemans Bridge beach, where you might find the odd fossilised remain. And of course, there are plenty of places to hike along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Your cosy caravan comes with a bathroom and a kitchen, so pick up some fresh home-grown produce and eggs on site and get set to create a feast. There’s a small store in Begelly, a five-minute walk away, and a couple of shops and restaurants in Kilgetty.

Local attractions

At Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (10 minutes’ walk), you'll get the chance to pet pygmy goats and donkeys, look right into the eyes of the giraffes from an elevated platform and check out fast-swimming penguins in the underwater viewing area. There are more animal adventures at Manor Wildlife Park (10 minutes’ drive), which is home to red pandas, tigers and wallabies. Ready to get wet? At Wild Lakes Wales (10 minutes’ drive), you can jump and bounce on the (seasonal) inflatable adventure course or have a go at wakeboarding. If you’d rather stay dry (and don’t have an issue with heights), there are also bouldering sessions. For something more tranquil, head to Colby Woodland Garden (10 minutes), where each season brings a different scenery: from carpets of bluebells in the spring to large hydrangea bushes in the summer, plus wildflowers and rhododendrons. There are butterflies aplenty, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of an otter in the pond.
