  • Dog-friendly farm site minutes away from Burry Port beach and harbour
  • A 10-minute drive from Pembrey Country Park; golf course nearby
  • Footpath access on site; farm shop, cafés and restaurants nearby
You may have rural roots on the dog-friendly farm site of Penllwyn Isaf Farm Campsite, but that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice sand between your toes – not at all. The beach at Burry Port is only five minutes’ drive away. Kick off your shoes and sit back on the farm, soaking up the views of the Carmarthenshire coast or watching the dairy cows on their daily commute to get milked. Penllwyn Isaf Farm Campsite caters to families, couples and small groups, but there are no hen or stag parties allowed and no noise after 10pm to make for a peaceful stay for all. There’s a footpath that runs through the site that will take you down into the village of Pembrey in five minutes. Once there, get right to the action by joining a cycling track towards the Millennium Coastal Path. Of course, Burry Port’s harbour and sandy beach may take up a fair bit of your attention too. Watersports are on a roll there, and there are boating and cafés for a bite to eat afterwards. More on the food situation: there are a great deal of good eats to choose from around here, including a farm shop 10 minutes’ drive away for those more substantial bits, a neighbourhood restaurant 25 minutes’ walk away in Pembrey or a fish and chip shop down by the harbour. Other popular picks include a steakhouse 10 minutes’ drive away in Llanelli and a hotel restaurant alongside a golf course, five minutes’ drive away. The site also has a communal firepit where you’re welcome to cook too - or bring your own firepit bits along.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The location, views, very decent toilets.

Disliked: Hard to find in the dark, got lost, but the owner was communicative and helped us get there

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: A quiet place with great views towards Llanelli, Gower and Pembrey (Welsh weather dependent). It can be quite exposed so be sure to peg down the guide ropes. Great communication from owners with helpful texts and messages on how to get to the site and advice on pitches. Luckily it was fairly quieter as there are limited facilities, which would be in demand if the campsite was full. If you're after facilities/entertainment to be provided, you're better off booking in at the country park at the bottom of the hill.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Views and location

Disliked: There was only one toilet and the shower was in with it… so not ideal if someone was having a shower and you needed to go. Check in by text not ideal and site owner didn’t answer the phone.

From the manager: We are truly sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay, it is very important to us that everyone has a memorable and enjoyable stay. To clarify; we have two shower/toilet units and during your stay we also had two portaloos to prevent people queuing. In regards to not being present, we were on site several times through the day and into the evening cleaning, helping campers etc. We are sorry to hear you could not get through to us on the phone, we had no records of missed calls to phone you back but apologise that you had this experience.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Peace, tranquility and the views are phenomenal.

Disliked: The facilities are such that whilst male and female shower and toilet facilities are badged they are identical and could be labelled unisex. We didn’t need to wait a lot or for long but this may reduce some awkwardness.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely small quiet campsite with a 10 minute drive away from Burry Port beach. Views were stunning, great facilities, with toilet, shower and hot water. Recycling bins also. Ground was great, and grass was cut well. Complementary fire wood for the fire was a lovely touch (didn’t use due to wind though!) Lovely owners. Overall a lovely campsite. Our pitch was on perfect flat ground, and pitch sizes were also great. Would definitely recommend.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great views The toilet and showers were immaculately clean. Despite being in a remote area still had 3g connection for our phones. Pembrey country park is only 8 min drive away with lots of things to entertain the kids with access to the beach.

Disliked: The lower field where we pitched was on a slope which made it a bit tricky when cooking on a table on a slant. There were flatter options on the field but as we went with a few family members the first one there chose the spot 🤦‍♀️

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Was a beautiful campsite on the top of the hill, lovely and quiet with very clean but basic facilities. Perfect for a weekend away.

Disliked: Not necessarily bad but you do have to drive everywhere.

Local attractions

Sharpen up your swing at the local golf course (five minutes’ drive). Those more skilled in the art of horse-riding – or at least, keen to give it a good go - can take on a trek from the Pembrey Park Riding Centre (five minutes). Mount a bicycle instead at Pembrey Country Park (10 minutes). There’s a dry ski slope, a beach and gorgeous paths around the park - what a mix. The nearby Pembrey Circuit (10 minutes) will add a dose of more adrenaline, with racing events and driving experiences. Ffos Las Racecourse (10 minutes) has further racing and live music events too. Get into bargain-hunting mode at Trostre Retail Park (20 minutes) if you wish. You might cop a new outfit for the several family-friendly attractions within driving distance of the site. Manor Wildlife Park (55 minutes) has tigers, wallabies and lemurs. Dinosaur Park (an hour) is all about Jurassic beasts instead, with a dinosaur trail, rides and dinosaur-themed activities. Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (50 minutes) mixes together animal activities with a fairground.
