FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Beautifully placed site with uninterrupted views of the estuary and Laugharne. Our pitch was really big and enabled us to put up an awning. We loved the shower and toilet block. Really clean and prettily decked out with a big shower cubicle. Nice and warm with a digital heating unit maintaining a cosy temp. And the little utility hut was brilliant. We bought some eggs which were available to buy with an honesty pot. Very tasty. We loved the 25-minute walk down to Llansteffan which we’d highly recommend.

Disliked: Nothing that the camp site could do anything about but we didn’t have great weather. Very windy and wet so we’d recommend a wind breaker as a must up there. We visited at a time that the little on site pub was closed (Sunday to Wednesday) which was a shame as we would have liked to try that.

Liked: What a fabulous site. We loved the on site ‘tow bar’ pub and the entertainment. The owners were lovely and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. They gave us free range eggs on the last day to take home with us. It’s a very picturesque site with fab views. Would defo recommend and we will return at some point. Phil and Caz

Powered grass campsite (adults only)

Liked: We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break, Matt and Sian were brilliant hosts. Lovely rustic bar on site with great entertainment on the Saturday night. When I read the reviews I was a bit uncertain about the toilet facilities, but I needn’t have worried, they were clean, with a hot shower. The campsite is a 5 minute walk to the village with a nice pub and a 5 minute drive to Llansteffan with a beach and a few pubs.

Local attractions

While Laugharne’s visible from the park, it’s a 25-minute drive away around the estuary to this pretty village famed for its castle and poet Dylan Thomas’ writing shed. For more of the area's history, National Trust attractions further away – like the Roman-era Dolaucothi Gold Mines (an hour’s drive) and the handsome house and park at Dinefwr (50 minutes) – should also feature on your to-do list. Also inland are many adventures, including the mountain biking trails of Brechfa Forest (55 minutes); swing back to the seaside and cycle more sedately along the Millennium Coastal Path if thrill-seeking on two wheels sounds a little bit too much for your tastes. Of course, you’re also never far from the coast in this part of Wales… Pembrey Country Park’s miles and miles of sandy beach are a 45-minute drive away, and the shorelines of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire are also less than an hour away.
