Beautiful morning in a wonderful location 🥰

  • Peaceful farm site in the Brecon Beacons, five minutes from Abercraf
  • A five-minute drive to the National Showcaves; 45 mins to Pen y Fan
  • Animals to meet on site; pizzas and snacks available in the evenings
So quiet you can hear the owls hooting after dark – sound like the kind of place for you? Then get along to Glamorgan and Cae Glas Camping, in the Brecon Beacons National Park and five minutes’ drive from the village of Abercraf. That blissful peace and quiet is the reason most guests cite for choosing a stay here – and as such you’ll be asked to keep the noise down, particularly after dark, to ensure a sense of calm for both visitors and wildlife. To further boost that peaceful vibe facilities have been kept to a minimum, but all guests will have access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area and are welcome to bring along dogs and barbecues. There's a firepit area here too, and firewood can be purchased on site. The site's takeaway is open in the evenings for pizzas, hot drinks and snacks. There are some stunning mountain views to be had here, and sitting down to admire them for a while is a most rewarding option – perhaps while meeting the animals that live here too (including alpacas, donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep and chickens). That said, there’s plenty of activity nearby should you wish: this is waterfall walk country, and a riding centre just down the road that can sort pony treks for all the family. It’s also a short drive to get to places like Craig y Nos Castle and the National Showcaves Centre for Wales or a slightly longer one (about 45 minutes) to Pen y Fan, the National Botanic Garden of Wales and the beaches of the Gower Peninsula.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Thoroughly enjoyed our time, despite the rain. Lots of things to love, but mostly for us it was the location with great walks near by.

Disliked: As per other reviews, it will be great when the other toilets/showers are ready for action. The site is really well lit all night long. Although I’m sure this would be a real bonus for some people, I prefer my campsites dark!

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Absolutely everything. During our two weeks of traveling around south west England and Wales we stayed at about 10 different sites and Cae Glas camping was by far the best place we stayed. We're considering spending a week down there at some point in the future. The landlords were extremely welcoming taking the time out of their busy day to help us with any questions we had. We were greeted with smiles and a stunning view of the mountains. There are pigs, goats, donkeys, chickens and alpacas on the farm that we were allowed to go and see and pet whenever we wanted. The toilets and showers that were there were really clean, well maintained, warm and most importantly there was hot water! Pizza was amazing a fair price. Bought some really nice jam and chutney too! We loved it there that much we decided to stay another day during our traveling. The negative reviews that some people have posted seem absolutely absurd. I can't think of anything negative to say! Definitely worth a stay.

Disliked: The fact that we couldn't stay longer!

Liked: Absolutely perfect spot. The owners were lovely. Lots of animals in the barn which my daughter really enjoyed. Hired a fire pit for £2.50 which was fab for my little one toasting marshmallows. The toilets and shower room was immaculate and lovely and warm. Five minute drive from Dan yr Ogof caves, which we were visiting the next day. Would definitely recommend and would visit again. Little cafe on site but can’t comment as we didn’t use it. Thank you - My daughter loved her first camping trip 🏕️

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Like the farm animals And the view Good shower and toilet facilities

Disliked: I pre orderd pizzas but heard of noboboy when contacted They advertise waterfalls and the nearest river is 4 hour walk a local map would be a great benefit Their cafe wasn't open as the staff weren't there twice! So couldn't get anything for the kids There was a alpaca walk and you could only go one way

Local attractions

Once you’ve dragged yourselves away from the views on site, it’s time to explore the surrounding area. Start close by with a horseback trek from the local stables (five minutes’ drive) or a walk to Henrhyd Falls (10 minutes). The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (five minutes) is a fab place to visit on any day, but makes a particularly good option for a wet-weather day out. If the nippers need a little break from all the scenery admiring, perhaps they’d appreciate a visit to meet the cheeky residents of Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary (10 minutes). And if the grownups need a treat to spur them along to the end of a hike, maybe a little something from the whisky and gin selections at Penderyn Distillery (25 minutes)? A bit further afield there’s plenty to explore around the Brecon Beacons National Park, including the splendid Four Falls Walk (half an hour) and the uphill challenge of Pen y Fan (45 minutes), the tallest British peak south of Snowdonia. The National Botanic Garden of Wales and Mumbles beach are both 45 minutes away if you’re after something a little less energetic.
