Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Go for the upper pitches, fantastic view looking to the South. This is also the most flat area of the site. Very little rock or stone in the ground so easy to get a peg in. Matt, the owner, couldn't more helpful with directions to the site and suggestions for what to do in the area. Very friendly and welcoming. Nice small site, and well off the beaten track surrounded by a small wood. The loudest sounds will be the birds. Next to a stables that do start early, I've always been an early riser so just something else to watch while having my tea, but the usual "pack your campsite earplugs" if you're planning a lie in. There is an undercover electrical charging point for phones & laptops and wifi is also available. Very unobtrusive CCTV on the entrance for security but you are very much out of the way. It's almost wild camping so pay attention to the site description in terms of what you need to bring. Access is up a narrow track so again, pay attention to vehicle sizing. Probably not for everyone with so few facilities but perfect for me. Good luck with your plans for the site and battling the bureaucracy :-)

From the manager: Hi Mr B, both, Thanks very much for staying. It was a pleasure to meet you and so glad you liked the place. I really appreciate you going to the time of writing all of the above. Really helpful for future guests and myself. Welcome to stay anytime and thanks for the good luck with my plans. Hopefully the next time you stay there will be a toilet, washroom and mini cafe. All the best! Matt

We stayed the one night, but would stay again if near the area.

Route directions

There is a low bridge (of seven feet and three inches) on the main satnav route. For vehicles above this height, visit via Lewis Street and then Sunnybank Terrace, or the streets above, as they all lead to the same place. Please note that the entrance is only 20 metres north of the low bridges; the satnav suggests going further up the mountain. Turn right into the drive 'Ysgubor Fach Lane'.
